What was your first bass guitar?

A 70s Ric 4001. I had no idea what I was doing, only bought it because someone offered it to me about a day after I decided to learn to play. I thought I had been taken advantage of because it didn't even sound like a bass to me. Dumped it very quickly and ended up with a Precision of course. Still have the P almost 30 years later but I wonder about that Ric and what I let go.

Gracias. That's a Ford metallic gold from about 1972. It was all chipped up Oly White, so I repainted it back then.

First bass was a nice used gibson ebo3 bass & sg guitar combo. Then 1976 gibson bicentenial issue thunderbird as first single neck instrument. lol.

the first bass i ever played was my dad's Washburn Xb200 in black, i now own it and play it everyday my favorite bass to play, thw first bass i ever bought was a Harmony i ordered off of Musicians Friend back in the day with a little Rogue amp, never play either one of those lol

My first was this Gibson Victory Artist. A pretty good way to start out I'd say, and I still have it. I will never let it go, for any reason.

Love it to death. Still works. Did some minor fixes on it (shielding and rewiring) and it still works, though I don't gig it anymore.

A 1978 Fender Musicmaster short-scale bass. Black with b/w/b pickguard and a rosewood fingerboard. Really quite nice; I think I paid $125.00 for it in 1983 or 1984. I was thirteen at the time.

That was my third bass... The first was a Teisco P-bass wannabe that I wrote "Fender" with whiteout on the headstock. The second was a Rickenfaker - but a damn good copy with the toaster pickup, triangle blocks and binding. Heck, I even drove to Santa Ana and brought a Ric truss rod cover for $5.50...

Kima P bass copy red, lasted about 3 months then moved to a peavy foundation which was my only bass for about 10yrs.

What was your first Bass Guitar ? In 1974, my first bass guitar was a Kay.... The strings were about an inch above the fret board. My parents said I would have to buy the next one. Once I learned to play, it wasn't long before I was out doing anything I could to make a few bucks..... Picking up returnable Coke bottles, mowing grass for 3.00 per lawn and checking pay phones for change......... I was not playing this Kay Bass much longer.

Hahaha!! Me too! I bought it in the summer of 1984 for a hundred bucks. P-bass copy complete with thumbrest and pickup/bridge covers. Neck was like a scary roller coaster ride! I had to bend strings in certain places to get them to sound in tune. I played it until it literally fell apart in my hands one night. During 1987, the fret wires would pop out of the maple neck. I would beat them back down with the handle end of a screwdriver. After a few months of this, I started ripping them out when they popped up. I had a half fretless half fretted bass for awhile! Then one night, I was jamming on it and all of a sudden the E string went slack - tuner screws had completely stripped out of the headstock. Game over....

Luckily, I had bought a Washburn Force 40 with a Kahler trem on it so I had something to play!

Oscar Schmidt by Washburn acoustic electric. It was a decent bass, nothing spectacular, but I could practice without bugging my parents. I ended up pawning it when I needed money to move, got about $50. I don't really miss it, but I do want an Epiphone Zenith acoustic/electric fretless.

Mine was an unfortunate s**t brown Yamaha 4 string I picked up at my local music store. This thing was a complete piece. It sounded like it had a two piece cardboard body and had about as much sustain and tone as your average drunk karaoke singer. I loved to hate that guitar. I named it Allison, after a loathed, troll faced stone-hearted ex-girl of mine. Last I saw of poor Allison her body was travelling at a high rate of speed towards the wall of the Zoo, a local dive bar my first band played semo-regularly at.

Teisco hollow body I bought at pawnshop in 1967. I still have it and just recently put new pickups in it. It's still a piece of crap, but kind of cool looking in a retro sort of way

My first bass was a Yamaha RBX170. It feels and sounded cheap; I should have looked around for a decent used Squier or MIM Fender. I took the frets off a couple of years ago just to have a fretless to mess around with.
