What was your first bass guitar?

Fender Musicmaster. (I think I have it written in my profile) It was my dad's before mine. Things older than I am, and the pickguard had already turned yellow by the time I got it. Still a great playing bass, if you if you dig short scales. Back when my dad used it, it was the 70's, and he had all the chrome on it. Something's wrong with the electronics though now, cause when you plug it in, it makes no sound.

First Bass Ibanez SR300DX ...it was quite good...tho the elecys sucked..but its defo better than most of the cheapo Crowd

Had that for a few years

Bought a Warwick Thumb...in bad need of repair ..did it up..but didbt like it to much.,.so sold it

THen Got My GB.... I kinda did the big jump at first from cheapo to expensive cause it saves u money in the long run.. :)

Bought a ATK a week or soo cheap and very cheeful...

have a Shuker Custom on Order.. :)

my lovely black westone spectrum ST bass

all my friends play lead so i thought itd be a smart move for me to learn bass.

wouldnt trade my bass for anything, got it for $195 at a pawn shop in excelent condition (not even very light scratching - just a scratch across the back) and i love tha thing, gonna buy a warlock and build my own in the near future tho :hyper:

My first bass was a BC Rich 4 stringer and I still play it every day! Its a white metallic that still looks cool on stage when a colored light hits it. It has all black hardware, and EMG Select P/J pups. I know a lot of people don't like the Select pups but these sound really good. I bought it new in '90 for $430. It's getting a little ragged so I'm going to rebuild it. Fresh paint, all new hardware, and EMG active pups. I I love this bass and I will never sell it! The link will show you my baby:

I started with a Beatle-Bass copy by Ventura. It was utter crap, but it was mine. I payed for it with lunch money. I skipped lunch for basically my Freshman year. But after saving roughly $3.85 every week for six months I was able to buy the bass I had had my eye on for over a year. If only I had been able to tell what a good bass looked like... If only I had been able to FIND a good bass for around a hundred bucks... If only...Well you get the idea.

But some of my no-name basses were actually quite good. I had a 4003 copy by Univox that was excellent. It was frankly every bit as nice as the Ric it was supposed to be the backup bass for. I wish I still had it. I wish I still ad the Ric. I wish I still had several of my old basses.

In no particular order I miss my old:
'78 or so Fender P (sunburst, tort, rosewood...perfect. My first quality bass)
'79 Ric 4003 (black with white pickguard...What can I say I was a Geddy-worshipper.)
'84 Schecter Jazz (black everything; finish, hardware, ebony 'board. VERY rock)
'90(I think) Guild Pilot (amber maple body, EMG PJ set up, fastest. neck. ever.)
'?? Univox Ric copy (natural with everything trying to look Ric-ish, awesome tone, still one of the best sounds ever)

My first bass was the Ibanez SR300DX P/J in blue. I had it for about a year.....hey that was last year. This year I traded it and bought like new (gently used) MIA Fender P, tobacco sunburst, White/Black/White pick guard with rosewood board. I love that bass.

My first bass was one I made at school. The body was two layers of blockboard (and lots of filler), and the neck was solid teak. It didn't need a truss rod.

The fretboard and the scratch plate were made of Formica (kitchen worktop veneer) because I had some in black.

The one piece bridge was made by bending a piece of 1/8 mild steel, and we adjusted the action by grinding off the excess. I don't remember having a problem with intonation, but I never got above the 5th fret, so perhaps I never heard it.

It was very neck heavy, and I ended up with the strap going to the headstock instead of the horn. It originally started with a white body and neck, but I eventually painted everything but the fretboard with blue Hammerite.

When I discovered that the rest of the band hadn't started to make their instruments, I went off the idea, but I did manage to sell it for what the parts had cost me. (£17, about $20-25)

30 years later, I started again, but this time I went out and bought a real one.

My first bass is my only bass. It's an Ibanez GSR190. It came in a bass pack. It's great for a first bass, but now I want something better, like a fretless or a five string. I might buy one like it just so I can de-fret it.

I'll never get rid of it, cause for one, I have no other bass, and it's gotten me through some tough times and I would feel bad by getting rid of it. Too sentimental.

i started out on a bass borrowed from a friend of mine. it was a white epiphone j-bass copy, with the frets ripped out ala jaco. terrible action. i had a guitar gig bag for it, so the ugly (slightly phalic) headstock was always sticking out.
the first one i OWNED was a 5 string washburn. i still have it, but the bridge broke last year. terrible design. now it's just a plank of wood taking up a space in my instrument stand.

Those Hofner cases dont take to musch ware, How much was the bass in 1965?.
