What was your first bass guitar?

Back in 1976 my dad got me a black Guild medium scale solidbody bass. I don't know the model number... it was probably on the truss rod cover which had gone missing. Looks-wise this bass was a Gibson EB-3 wannabe, but had dual humbucking pickups and a slightly offset waist. The bridge saddles were made of wood.

I don't miss that bass at all.

as promised here is my first and only bass to date, its not really fancy but i love the sound and i think its good for learning on.

EDIT: I am really happy with how this pic turrned out i took it myself and then photoshopped it to this, you can still see the reflection of my bed sheet on the side if you look closely.

Well my first bass was/is a 94 Yamaha TRB-4. Got it 6 months after starting. Before that I used a "Vantage" bass. It was an alembic copy. Kind of cool, 2 p pickups, neckthrough, heavy as all hell. The Yamaha was purchased from and auction by my sax player for me because he thought I needed a decent bass. Hell yeah!!! Still my main bass.

My first and only bass at this point, is a Squier Affinity P, from those package dealies with the Frontman 15 amps (the amp has since been replaced with an Ampeg BA115, many thanks to various people and Xmas!). The bass is pretty solidly built and has decent tone, and I don't see myself letting go of it for a while.

Look at squierplayer's pic, it's essentially the same bass as that.

My first bass was a parts P-bass that I put together myself back in 1988 from parts I bought at Veneman's Music Emporium.

1) A P-neck with a walnut skunk stripe and rosewood fretboard
2) Schaller Tuners (Black Chrome)
3) Black Chrome Dome Knobs
4) Black Chrome Leo Quan Badass Bridge
5) A black/white/black laminated pickguard
6) EMG Active P-bass pickups
7) D'Addario Ground wound strings
8) Ash P-bass body

I finished the bass in a dark walnut stain and had it spray sealed with 3 coats of Poly-urethane.

That bass is still at my folks house near Pittsburgh, PA and I am having it shipped to Australia in a few months.

I can't wait :hyper: :hyper:

It really IS a great bass.

first bass i ever 'owned' (circa 1975) was a no-name japanese Beatle Bass copy (a fairly accurate one, see pic).

A short time after my brother convinced me to buy the 'Beatle Bass', i had appropriated a 1974 Sunburst Fender P-bass from my school, convincing the band director that i needed to practice with it 'every single evening , plus weekends'... so really i had TWO "first basses" in a sense (I played the P-bass for a year)

Rick 4001; Black on white; 1978; I was seventeen. Back then I lived with my Folks, so I could afford a new pro bass.

Ran it through a Peavy head (uhh.. it was big and covered in black Tolex, and the middle of the knobs had tolex on them too, but it liked to fall off the knobs - and it had like a six-band rotory-knob EQ) driving a weird 18"-loaded folded horn, and a 2X15 Kustom cab - or was it a Peavy cab?

That's all I remeber...
