What was your first bass guitar?

Mine was a Cortez Jazz Bass that my stepdad's friend let me play for a while. It was natural colored with a tort guard and small chrome single coils. I think it also had block inlays. That was about 17 years ago and I haven't seen it in about 16. I'd love to give it a run today.

I started playing bass in 1993, switched from guitar. I had an Aria Pro II Integra that a High School friend gave me. It was the cheapest model, passive with soapbar pickups (I think) and sounded like absolute crap. I actually turned this one into a Fretless, but I don't know what happened to it...I may have smashed it...
I then used a borrowed Peavey Unity Koa bass, absolutely beautiful instrument. Once I bought my first "real" bass, a '94 Stingray, I have to give the Peavey back. I consider the Stingray my first bass.

Mine was an Olympic white MIM Jazz bass I bought from a friend. Solid bass, even better after I swapped the pickups for DiMarzios. Ended up trading it for another bass that I sold for another bass that I sold for another bass that I sold for another bass that I still have. I have other Jazz basses now but kind of wish I still had that first one.

My first bass with 4-strings was an SX Jazz. But when I look back on my first band when I was in high school, we didn't have a bass. So on a few songs, I played my '61 Gibson Les Paul Jr. with the tone rolled off, as a bass substitute. It took me another 30 years to figure out that I was a bassist not a guitarist, but better late than never.

Mine was a Dean Edge 09 given to me by my parents in 2009. That bass was a piece of crap. In 2011 I bought an Ibanez BTB four banger at a local pawn shop for $100, and consider that to me first "real" bass.

My first one was a Vantage Flying V Bass. This bass let me find my way and discover my interest in the bass guitar. It served its purpose.

I specifically recall the time-period. I was taking music in high school. The first semester I took guitar. The second semester, it was required to select a different instrument, which read a different music clef, so I chose the bass since the fretboard layout was already similar. As soon as I plugged in and started playing, I immediately felt the groove and felt the love.

My bass looked like this one, except it was Blue.

It's the only bass I sold, only because I needed to raise some money to move from the East Coast to West Coast of Canada.

Some kind of P/J Cort bass around 1984. Wasn't too awful to look at, but didn't sound all that spectacular either. Don't even remember what happened to that bass. I think I sold it somewhere along the line. Wasn't anything that with a lasting impression.

Laguna MIJ precision from the 80s. It's actually a great bass, and I still play it fairly regularly 25 years later.
