What was your first bass guitar?

I think this was my first. I have no idea what it is/was.

A no name Japanese Fender copy, I think it had a P-pickup and a J-bass body shape and I can't imagine I paid more than $40 for her in about 1968. ... But my first 'real' bass was a 1966 Fender P-bass which in 1971 set me back a whopping $275.

One of these - bought in 1977 for $150, which was a lot of lettuce for a highschool kid:

That was my 2nd bass, bought brand new in 1980.

Had one just like this as my first bass.

Ah, the longhorn boner jazz! 1989? I had friends at GC way back, the trade in rape can lead to great deals for employees and their friends (in the old days). I worked at a telescope store, and my telescope collection is stuff I never would have been able to afford otherwise. Trade in rape is good for the employees who have first dibs.

Here's mine - Ibanez Roadstar II. Traded it in when I got my Fender Precision Plus "Boner" bass. I should have come up with the extra $75 I got in trade for it and kept them both. It would have been a nice backup bass. But, I'm an idiot.

1965 Hagstrom H-II. I believe it looked just like this, only mine was red, not blue. Wish I still had it!

Late 1980's or early 1990's Series 10 P Bass copy. It was purchased secondhand for less than $100 in 1992. The thing wasn't too bad of a beginner's bass.

I swapped a nice Winchester 1894 in 30-30 for a Teisco Del Ray. Sure wish I'd just kept the rifle.

An Ibanez SR305 in Pewter; Rosewood fingerboard and a maple/walnut 5 piece neck, bolt on.

Active electronics with pre-amp EQ.

Had a very fast neck; didn't feel like a baseball bat even though it was a 5-er. Not to mention my tiny hands.

I was very happy with my first bass.

I had a Vantage that looked like this one:

It was as heavy as the come, and had ferocious neck dive. I don't miss it a bit.

Ya know I don't remember what I paid for it, but my mother charged it at Sears and Roebuck and I paid the payments with my earnings from an after school shoe store job. Wish I still had it for sentimental reasons.
