Used '73 Olympic White Fender Precision bought in '77 for $200. Tone knob barely changed tone. Traded it for a Travis Bean. My shoulder hated it but I loved it at the time. Love to still have that Pbass to trade for a Lull or Sadowsky.

. Classic example of trade in rape! They gave me $100 for an ibanez TR80 that I just bought for $279 at a different store less than 2 months prior, and they wanted to give me only $40 for a peavey fury. They being a GC. Basically, it is being given a double strength low ball extreme when trading something in. "Raped across the coals" is a common phrase. Many times the buying salesman has intentions to snag it for next to nothing with his employee discount, which can be as good as 10% up. So that ibanez pictured above probably cost $82.50 if an employee bought it.Here's mine - Ibanez Roadstar II. Traded it in when I got my Fender Precision Plus "Boner" bass. I should have come up with the extra $75 I got in trade for it and kept them both. It would have been a nice backup bass. But, I'm an idiot.
Actually, the proper term is "raked across the coals". The dreaded "R-word" has nothing to do with it. It's an old reference to one's enemies/prisoners being dragged across a bed of coals for interrogation…or worse, entertainment…purposes. If you don't believe me, bring up a Google page. By the time you've typed in "raked acr", the phrase will pop up as a suggested search.
yes that is correct, raked across the coals. My bad. I guess I did a mental mashup there. But the phrase " we raped him on that trade" has been commonly used, and I'm sure raped was substituted for raked a few times on the coals thing too. But yes, raked over the coals is the standard phrase.
Exactly, but can we keep the "R-word" out of this, please? I'm not trying to be politically correct, it's just that it hits close to home here…possibly to some other people as well.

Love the look of that EB-3 copy, although I usually prefer basses with a black finish (or natural finish in darker wood colors and rose wood fret board), there's something appealing about this all natural light wood finish, something undefinable raw that shines through the seemingly polished look.
Also quite unusual to have a bass in natural finish with such light wood, at least I don't think I ever saw something like this before.

They were guitar players....they know everything.You should have shown those guitar players the virtues of wearing a strap.
My friend, if I'd had a crystal ball, I would have kept all of them! At the time they were just used gear.
