What was your first bass guitar?

Mine was a Vox Clubman, very crude,maple board, medium scale and the machine heads were like plastic guitar machines
Cost me £10, when i was about 12 maybe 13 years old

What was it like really? I know of a 1963 one which I am considering getting cheap to tidy up and play a bit and have on my wall. Trying to build up a collection of old and interesting instruments...


My first instrument was a Westfield P in trans blue. Still have it as I got it only about 3-4 years ago. I then decided I needed the extremem upgrade to an Overwater Progress Custom 6, big upgrade!!! I advanced pretty fast at first... It is justifiable, and I was considering a Ken Smith BT6, but I preffered the Overwater

'67 Precision, bought around 1972ish for $165.00. Defretted and refinished in the late 70's. Still got it.

mine was a purple yamaha rbx 270 pj i believe its called. it played quite well but the action was like an upright so it made me a better player being young and stupid, thinking bass's couldn't be setup different.

When I was 13 my mom bought me a Harmony P-bass type copy straight from the JC Penney catalog. It being red is all I really remember about it. I never actually played it through a proper amp. It was stolen!
