My first bass was a 1956 Gibson EB1. That was in 1964. I wanted a Vox Phantom Bass, but we couldn't afford one. I used it for many years before passing it along to my son who still plays it when he is looking for thunder sounds.

When I was 13 my mom bought me a Harmony P-bass type copy straight from the JC Penney catalog. It being red is all I really remember about it. I never actually played it through a proper amp. It was stolen!
