What was your first bass guitar?

An old "Cromwell" bass, which was just a rebranded Hagstrom (with the King's Neck emblem, patented "expander-stretcher" truss rod), that I got from a friend for $25 in 1970. Loved the neck; my Geddy Lee jazz reminds me so much of it. I managed to keep a hold of that thing for a couple decades, but inexplicably lost it during one of my moves in '98 or '99.

A no-name department store bass from Montgomery-Wards. Came with a Marlboro bass amp that, as I recall, was somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 watts. It was the most powerful bass amp they sold (back around 1974)!

An incredibly cheesy Plywood Jazz that my brother-n-law had attempted to refinish and left in pieces. Traded on a (Drum roll please) '61 Stack Knob Jazz. It was already refinished, but it's been returned to sunburst, and I can't imagine letting this one go.

A Fender Bullet Bass that I subsequently tried to turn into a fretless using some pliers, epoxy, and vast amounts of ineptitude. It now sports a Warmoth fretless neck.

not my actual bass. But this very same model, color and everything. Got it in Memphis TN in a music store called Yarborough's Music. I believe I had just gotten a guitar amp there but I was starting bass lessons because me and my old man thought it would be a good idea ( which it was). Anyway, they had this old beater kicking around... So they gave my old man a deal on it... I bought it and have been playing bass since. Still play guitar, but don't hold that against me

my very first bass is a P-bass copy that I assembled myself...built it with zero experience in '91...recently brought it back from the USA (after a 7 year separation)...I did a fret dressing, a proper setup, changed the pickup and I LOVE it!

it doesn't LOOK the greatest, but it plays and sounds GREAT!

I played it last night, in fact...gotta love #1

Peavey Millennium 4 BXP from eBay, said it was brand new but ended up being a used bass with horrible action and fretwork. now I'm using a ESP B-255 Black cherry which i love to death.

Mine was a blue Squire MB-5. I sold it to buy a RG120, and then traded that in for a strat, and then traded the strat for a Squire Vintage Modified Jazz 4-string today.

I went with a "Diamond" bass that my grandmother got for 10 dollars at a yard sale back in '04 as my first-ever

This is my first bass!Its an Ibanez Starters kit bass,lol.I dont know tha actual name of tha bass,just that its Ibanez.I've had it for almost 3 years now.I started everything on this bass!It is now my tenor bass,tuned ADGC.If you see closely,u will will notice that tha bridge is off.Idk y,but I still love it!Also,one of tha tuning pegs broke.I have other basses nicer than this,but I use all my basses regularly

A no name made in Japan copy of an EBO, probably made in the late 60's. Terrible action and dull sound. First real bass was an early 70s Precision, traded it for a Yamaha 12-string guitar because I didn't like the P-sound. In retrospect, not the most clever financial move I ever made, but I really wanted a Rickenbacker. Took me a few years but finally got my 4001....I now have several Rics, and still no P-bass (three Fender Jazzes, though, so I don't hold a grudge.)
