I had a Ibanez Rickenbacher as my first bass. Got it in 77 I believe. When I decided to go back to chicago from cali I decided I didn't want to bring the rig with me so I traded it for a Ibanez Les Paul Deluxe 59er. I still have the guitar after 30 years. Never play it tho 
First was a Univox HiFlier, white, then a Gibson EB-(sumpin', w/ a slotted headstock), then a Ric 4001. All in the first 4 yrs of playing. Been with the Ric's ever since then, a long time.
My mom bought mine for me, much to the disgust of my dad. I had been bugging her for a bass for a year and never expected to get one. Came home from school one day and there is twas. My dad thought music didn't pay off. Within a year, I was making more a week than he was. Thanks Mom!

well, i DID learn all the basics and started with it.. but sometimes i wish i could go back in time and buy a JB.

Squier Affinity Precision Bass. It was pretty crappy... Now I have one that's awesome! Hit or miss.
A red Sekova hollow body 4-string. Don't even remember selling it. Maybe my mom did when I moved out as a kid.
My first was a Cortez P bass copy. Complete with ashtrays and lipstick pup. Black with a white pickguard and a rosewood fingerboard.
I was 14 when I moved from renting an Electra P bass to getting a Peavey T-40 for my birthday that year. I never looked back - but was all too happy when I was able to get away from that Peavey - I HATED that thing!!!
i had a Peavey Foundation S..i loved that bass...now in retrospect, i should have hated that bass. in retrospect i also should have changed that battery more than once and probably not layed it against the wall with its neck as a prop rod...you live you learn

a 90's Epiphone EB-3.
I loved it, but the neck dive was awful and it's slap tone was awful. I sold it and bought a Schecter Custom-5, which I still love to this day.

Squier Special P from the late 1990's, can't remember where...but it sat around in a case for 5 years through most of my high school career, then came out of it my junior year so I could learn something that didn't make girls laugh when you told them you played it (I played tuba). I just took it to GC today to get the 15% off my next purchase and took that percentage off of the Musicman Sterling HH in honey burst with a maple fretboard that I've been saving 3 years for. The Squier...well, truth be told, I won't miss that thing once my Musicman arrives.
