1984 Ibanez Destroyer. Here I am with it, in all of my John Taylor-ish glory. Look - I appear to have rolled up the sleeves of my sport jacket. My second bass was the 1986 CIJ Fender Jazz Special (which actually wasn't very special) on the stand behind me. And that was a Dietz 2x15 cabinet that weighed 175 pounds if it weighed an ounce, along with a Sunn Coliseum 300 that also weighed more than a small car. With that rig on the stage, the whole building was safe from tornadoes.
This gig was at a skating rink in Austin. Good times.
The Ibanez was not a bad bass at all. I sold it a few years later, then ran across it on consignment at Musicmakers a few years after that. I was in the depths of my college brokeness then, else I would have bought it back.
The flying V that the guitarist is playing was allegedly owned by Rick Neilsen before him. It sounded like dog doo, I don't blame Rick for unloading it.
