What was your first "gigging" rig?

My first gig rig for bass was a '74 Hiwatt DR103 through a vintage Kustom 2x15 tuck 'n' roll cab. Nice sound actually and still have both the amp and cab, though i gig with other cabs these days. I had gigged guitar, sitar, and keyboard/piano prior to my first time gigging bass.

Huge modified Hiwatt 100 watt head and a Hiwatt 4x12 cab. The head was configured more like a p.a.

Very strange thing.
I realize this post is old, but I'll respond anyway. It sounds like you had a Hiwatt DR112. These are great amps, quite rare too. There's a pic of one here:

It was 1971. I bought a used 65/66 Fantasy Bassmate 50w tube amp :D and built my own 2-15 cab, loaded with Radio Shack musical instrument speakers. Had no idea what I was doing, but had enough sense to measure at least the exterior dimensions of a friends Bassman cab. Actually sounded pretty good as I remember. The amp was very similar to a Bassman.
Not to derail but I can't seem to find anything about a Fantasy Bassmate. Didn't Traynor make a Bassmate? Maybe Yorkville? Anybody know? Sorry for getting side tracked.

1976---my first giggable bass amp was an acoustic 136 100w combo with a 15". liked acoustic ok until i played my first ampeg rig 2 years later (73 v4b/810), then it was all about the ampeg and still is.

I had to borrow amps for my very first gigs, (teenage band), but the first one I gigged and owned was a GK 400RB paired with various inadequet cabs. And for the longest time in the 80's, I gigged a Crate 2x15 rig that worked fine, even if it was severely lacking good bass tone. It was loud, and at the time, that was my priority. Only in the last 5 or so years has my gear caught up with my idea of what bass should sound like.

Bought my first proper amp back in 1984...an Acoustic combo amp...similar in looks to the current B20 or B100. Was too boomy/mid-rangey for me no matter what I did to EQ it, and traded up to a nice G-K 200RB amp and Hartke 410XL cabinet a few years later. The G-K was stolen...replaced it with a Hartke 2000, which along with the 410XL cabinet I still have to this day.

I was 13 years old, bought a 1972 Fender Precision "blond" with an "A" neck, for $239. My dad was kind enough to go "halves" on the amp, which was a Bassman 50 with a 2-15 cabinet where the 15's were on the diagonal. That was $300 total (so I had to cough up $150). Mowed a lot of lawns that summer.

My "2nd" gigging rig was a B-15N that I got in trade for a small Peavey PA that I had bought for my first band. Like a moron, I sold the B-15N...and the Bassman 50 became a family "hand me down" to a younger brother that played bass. He and his buddy trashed it unfortunately.

Still have the 72 Precision though.....
