What was your first "gigging" rig?

I had this giant super-heavy Peavey head and jbl 18. I need to google Peavey amps and see if I can find what model it was. It was built into a big metal casing, and sounded a lot like putting your bass straight into a big power amp.
I played a Peavey Foundation and a Hohner Jack Bass, then a 70s Ric 4001 through that set up.

I used to lug around an 80's model Peavey TNT 115 combo for years till I really started playing out around the age of 17.

My first real gigging rig was a 78'(ish) Ampeg silver face head on top of two Cerwin Vega 2 X 15" folded horn cabs.

Funny thing, a friend of myn's grandpa toured with Merl Haggard back in the 70's and that was the rig he used back then. He even had the original self made speaker cables. His grandpa passed the amp and 77' Epiphone Grabber bass on to him. After realizing he didn't want to play he sold the rig to me for 350 bucks and kept the bass, of which he pawned some years later and after alot of searching around the area I never found it. I kept the rig and is still in my spare bedroom with the ring shaped stains on tops of the cabs from where they would sit their beer while on stage. I probably wouldn't trade that rig for the $4,000 + rig I play through now.

I have to admit that I started gear hopping and gas'n before I even got my first gigs...

You're not alone.

I owned 3 amps and 8 cabs before I played my first real gig.

My first rig that saw a stage is the rig I'm rockin' now: GK1001rbII and an Avatar 2x12 Delta.

Prior to that, my first "rig" was an Acoustic 270 amp and an old Laney 2x15 cab, my subsequent rigs consisted of a combination of an Ashdown MAG300 head, a Sonic 4x10, a Crate 4x10, a Peavey 1820, an Avatar 2x10, and one of two different homebrew 1x15 cabs.:hyper:

Got a Silvertone 150 watt head, with the 610 bottom, new in 1967. Played our first gig at the local country club. Thought we were going to make some real cash. We played outdoors by the pool. We were all about 15 years old. they dashed our spirits at the end of the afternoon, by paying us each with a hamburger and fries. We were bummed.
