THANK YOU for telling me!! It is up on the list now. Let me repeat why your Force series B-40EQ is so special for any other readers:

"For starters the 1985 catalog has $749 price. Also it is the year Washburn used humbuckers on them (and last year of B-40EQ production/Force production), 1982-1984 has them with P&J pickups (unless a BBR or WHBB pops up with humbuckers for 1984---that would be special indeed).

What is REALLY interesting is that it certainly confirms again (you are correct) that Kasuga came on board in 1985 as Matsomoku was quitting.

But what is REALLY, REALLY a big deal is that you have uncovered a piece of unknown (at least to me) history.
1985 B-40EQs seem to be extremely rare to begin with.
In all my years collecting I have managed to find only 6 of them, including 1 fretless. But ALL of them have that very, very strange serial number starting with "000"...that strange SN system unlike every other Washburn has used, and is the source of much confusion to owners.
BUT...your serial number ( K851634) is the only one I have EVER seen that is outside the 1985 "000" SN usage."

Hi MEK, currently I am not quite sure what to make of it. In terms of playability it's great. Like all the up to 85 Washburns, it's perfectly balanced and the neck is a dream. Not too thin and not to big (but Im not picky at all about necks - can't remember a single one I haven't got along with. Big hands help). The electronics is different from the Matsumoku variety. It is only 9V vs. 18V and, while the knobs and the switches do basically the same, the mid sweep works different. While on the SB-40/Force-40's you have that wah-wah like mid sweep, this is different on my B-40. I haven't quite worked out how exactly, but as of now, I think, the small switch is simply mid-boost on and off (or mid boost at two set frequencies) and the pot (which is not free but stepped- don't know how the correct English word is) sets the amount of boost.
Soundwise, the bass is a typical kid of the eighties, a bit on the bright side. Unfortunately the signal coming from the neck pup is very weak (need to find out, if the pup is toast or something is wrong with the preamp), so final judgement about the sound needs to wait until this is resolved.
Will try to post a few pics of the cavities next week, and maybe I will manage to do a sound clip.

Hi MEK, here's the cavities. The preamp look virgin. Nobody seems to have tampered with it so far..

Ok. So far I was not quite sure, what to make of the weak neck PU. Now I tend to think, that it's more a feature than a bug. Now that I have played the bass some more, I think, that Washburn/Kasuga wanted to create a Stingray soundalike. The bridge PU is the main PU and the neck PU just adds some color to the sound. I also think, the mini toggle switch in upper position means mid boost is off and in downward position it is engaged. As on the Force-40EQ you use the lower pot to set the boost position but the bandwith is narrower than on the Force-40EQ.

Here's a sound snippet. I start with boost off, sweep at 10-5-0 and then boost on and sweep 10-5-0. Vol is at 6 and both PUs are on. Now listen, if there's a difference between the three settings with boost disabled.

Heya Heisenbass---Very interesting. To me, snippets 1, 3+4 ( 4 having a bit more bottom than 3) and 7th (last) are the best sounding, each one of them have a subtle difference. Sounds, to me, more suited to R+B or jazz than hard rock. YMMV. Of course, that could be addressed by volume and dialing in mid to hi mids I guess.
So the mini-switch positions are backwards from SB40 usage. I wonder why? And is it only 1 battery required that I see or is 1 underneath the first one? The Japanese B-40 schematic we have matchs the SB40 exactly when I had the elec engineer look at it and my bass together. And it shows also two batteries. I am now thinking the schematic IS an SB40 schematic without the S. ??? Especially if the B-40EQ only has 1 battery! If ALL B-40EQ(W)'s have 1 battery then that means the schematic IS only SB-40. And a piece of history is straightened out.
Yes, in the cavity, it looks factory stock.
The Force series B-40EQ is a real brain-teaser. It appears in the 1982 and 1983 magazine ads I have as a B-40EQW and in one ad I have. But a no-show in the 1982 catalog pages I have. It appears as B-40EQ (no W) in 1983-1985 catalog+ pricing. They are P/J up to 1984 and then the soapbars 1985. What is strange also is that I cannot find a single pre-1985 B-40EQ despite years of looking. I would like to see the serial numbers since the 1985 has mostly the "00" type of sn.
Love these basses, but....

MEKer, for completeness, XB125 (2003, SN 03060716, black), cripes its older than I thought. I bought it in early 2009 second-hand, in great condition. It's still great today, has needed a bit of electronics repair.
