Wheels of Fire by Cream was the last one I actually bought, although I've recently acquired a lot of vinyl from parents and grandparents cleaning out attics.

I got a free 45 from a grand opening of Wallich's Music City in Costa Mesa in about 1967 or so.

The Strawberry Alarm Clock (Incense, Peppermints) and The Cyrcle (Red Rubber Ball) played for the opening event.

That was the last time I got or bought or even found a vinyl record.

I just knew that 4-Tracks were gonna be the biggest thing in the world and bought one of them (A Muntz under dash one) for my 1959 Chevy.

Wallich's Music City was one of the most famous music stores in the country and operated from 1940 to 1978. It (the main and first store) was located at the corner of Sunset & Vine in Los Angeles. It was a special store and a place to go for tickets, sheet music, LP's and 45's, tapes (4 & 8 track and later on, cassettes).

They also sold TV's and musical (FENDER) instruments.

They unsuccessfully tried to take the music market by opening more stores. It failed pretty bad after a very short time.

(I went away for a while there - I'm back now - sorry ).

The last vinyl record I bought was about 8 years ago, it was Martin Denny's "Quiet Village" signed by every member of the band. I keep meaning to have it framed.

Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and a couple of other classics. They cost me $1.50 all up. Just before that I got The Essential Coleman Hawkins, some Gerry Mulligan and The Pres and Teddy. Lester Young and Teddy Wilson Quartet. It's a beauty.

A few weeks ago I got "Duke Ellington: Pianist", "Duke Ellington Band Live 1927-1940" "Jaki Byard Trio" and Lou Reed's "New Sensations".

"Ellington Live" has a version of a song I've been seeking for ages, "Transblucency". The Lou album has great bass playing by Fernando Saunders and a few good songs, but the rest of it is truly wretched.

The last album I bought on vinyl was just before last Christmas and it was either Float by Flogging Molly, or Swoon by the Silversun Pickups can't remember which is newer.

I might have one of the sweetest record scores ever as my last purchase.

I went to a tag sale, where they had $1 per record or 6 for $5 as the deal for anything on vinyl. I walked away with: Fleetwood Mac-Rumors, Bruce Springsteen-Born to Run, Prince-Purple Rain, The Dire Straits-Brothers in Arms, The Bet of CCR, The best of Simon and Garfunkel and Neil Young-After the Goldrush.

Possibly the best 6 dollars I have ever spent. All of them have all the original Booklets and art, and are in perfect playing condition!!!!!

vinyl is best for music that deserves to be hi-fi (altar), for more modern stuff vinyl is just cool.
