What Will Squier Do Next?

Coronado would be nice, but I would think a semiacoustic might be too complex and costly an endeavor (sp?) for Squier.

too complex? They ARE Fender! The have all the design templates, technologies, contacts, worldwide sales network, advertisement etc. to do it!!!

Too costly? I paid My Eastwood Classic 4 (a beautiful and aggressive Gretsch clone) 499 usd plus shipping to Italy. Make two and two by yourself thinking at the difference in potential sales by Fender versus the unknown Eastwood...

To me, the fact that Fender does NOT re-issue the Coronado is a mystere only second only to the Fatima one...

How about P Bass Elite II series? Double P bass pickups, fine tuning bridge...:hyper:
I owned an original one and loved it!

Perhaps you're right. I suspect it's a "bottom line" issue, they likely don't feel there is enough demand for a Coronado copy to warrant the initial outlay of expense it would take to get production going on it. (I'm guessing). Maybe Coronado fans might get a letter-writing campaign going ... but then again those hardly ever work unless the numbers of people writing in are huge.

you're right: sure Coronado won't sell not even 1/20 of the pieces they sell of any P version or any J, but nevertheless (my opinion, obviously) is that it would be a profitable investment anyway... and one more beautiful axe around

I don't know that it would. Had it been a popular bass in the first place, Fender would still be making it. I doubt that it would be in all that much more demand now than it was then to make it a viable seller. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard it had a rep as being pretty much a sucky instrument. I don't know how true that is, though.

obviously the only human being that can say "I am right and you're wrong" is... the wife! But think about this: at the epoch people was looking for a real workhorse (=moneymaker), not much to spend around and therefore should you had to select one versatile instrument between a Jazz bass or a Coronado, what would you have chosen? Now, thank God things are different and I would (a lot of us would) not hesitate to spend something to have a Coronado at home beside the other... three, four or more mainstream basses.

pretty much a sucky instrument

Coronado performance: also here anything is debatable. As for everything around on this planet, somebody liked somebody did not. Same thing for all the hollowbody basses around today anyway! The good news is that with current modern technologies you could definitely realize an excellent axe and provoke some real drooling... MVHO!

Look how much this guy asks for his Coronado:

Don't get me wrong, I think it would be teriffic to have a Fender type semi-acoustic bass, and I am quite sure Squier could make a realy nice one, (and I personally would be very tempted to get one) but I can't help but think, if Squier or Fender had the slightest idea they could make some good money on it, they would be making one already.
