What Will Squier Do Next?

The Affinity models have alder bodies and rosewood boards. I took a jazz and poly'd the neck and replaced the pups with the 60's reissues. It sounds awesome!
[DEL]The affinity series have basswood bodies. Not alder.[/DEL]

EDIT: Wow, is that new? The affinity basses are in fact alder according to the website.

It's the standard series that uses agathis. I don't know if any of their basses use basswood anymore.

I wonder when that changed? Or has it always been this way?

I am confused now...

EDIT 2:

Standard - Agathis
Classic Vibe/Deluxe - Basswood
Vintage Modified - Maple
Affinity - Alder

Hopefully, stop producing so much crap! If they were the only bass available, I would find another instrument to play.

I see a lot of people talking about how great they are. I tried one at Guitar Center today. The fret job so bad that the wire was sticking out on almost every fret. I slid up the neck and sliced two of my fingers open.

There's a good reason for that. Most people aren't gear snobs and have the common sense not to judge a brand from one (or even a few) bad example(s).
Otherwise, no-one would buy ANYTHING at all. You're trolling, plain and simple.

Ya know --- I'm kinda surprised that Squier hasn't hit the Xmas market a lot harder with some of the outstanding stuff they've kicked out in the past few months.

I wonder WHEN the next Squier will hit and what it is if they aren't unveiling it in the past week and are holding out for a better market.

Even dropping a bomb on the bass market right now would be a great thing too - there's still time for the last minute rush.

Still waiting on that sunburst VM Jazz.

Sure you did. :hmm:

I'd like to see a musicmaster reissue, maybe even the mustang, it wouldn't be that hard - just take the bronco and change the pickguard, bridge, and in the case of the mustang the pickups slightly, and you have a whole new bass design.

I'll bite...

Since the original Vintage Modified P is sort of a homage to the look of 1970s black-on-white punk rock basses ala The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Clash, Pretenders, how about a homage to the black-on-white 1960s slab P-basses used by The Who, T Rex, etc.?

Olympic White '51 slab body
Black 3-ply guard
maple neck

I'd buy one!

Epi manages to make semihollows, I think the cost could be really cut down if they resorted to painting the binding on. They could also use laminated wood pressed in steam bending forms instead of carving (or routing and sanding) a solid-wood top, the neck could still be bolt-on as well.

I think Squier has reached the point that they need to establish their own identity and introduce an original design. Much like Hyundai and Kia cheaply copied other asian manufacturers in the beginning, but are now establishing their own style.

Eeeeh, I think I'm all set. How could a lefty possible want anything other than a natural finish, blocked Jazz? I mean really, they'd be wasting their time offering anything else. At the most I think they MIGHT get a few sales if they offered a black P bass.
