What would YOU do to save Gibson?

You're right! You assumed since I'm not a Gibson fanboy that I must be a Fender fanboy. That truly is amazing.
And I don't think I need to *own* a Gibson to know from 5 feet away that glue seeping out of the binding and being left that way for shipment is egregiously unacceptable. I don't need to *own* a Gibson to play one and know I don't like that it weighs more than my television. And I don't need to *own* a Gibson to know I've never been partial to their sound. To each his own. If you're a fan, chip in and help save the company. I'm not stopping you. But I'm not going to be sad to walk into my local guitar shop and not see 50 tobacco burst Les Pauls hanging there (beside 20 burgundy SGs) listening to some clown butchering Sweet Child 'o Mine for 45 minutes on one.

Discontinue all Gibson guitars and fold into G&L. Play free G&L basses all day.
Start by making Gibson a good place to work! I hear morale is terrible there and that people catch holy hell if they want to take a day off. Also, listen to and act upon constructive criticism—especially when it comes from middle management.

Gibson's in a very tough spot because Fender and PRS are eating their lunch and snacking on their leftovers. For half the price, you can get a guitar that's as good or better than the comparable Gibson model.

Nobody needs Gibson anymore. Poor quality, high prices, bad attitude. They're just one of those American icons that people are attached to based on things they did half a century ago. Think Harley-Davidson. Time to wrap it up already.
This is a big part of the problem. Fender has viable bass lines (P, J, PJ, Mustang, Jaguar, Dimension, Custom Shop, Mod Shop, Squier). Gibson has SG and Thunderbird, and the Epiphone Thunderbird is 1/3rd the price of the Gibson. Seriously?

Was that the point charlie monroe? That I made a snappy zinger (thank you by the way, 40Hz, that's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me!) and you guys got butthurt about it? I definitely can't refute that. You got me.
Well, I am not sure that is necessarily an issue. Guitars outsell basses by far. And the Gibson models have always been very niche, anyway. They probably don't make them any money.
Ironically, I made points about Gibson's laughable quality control, and 40Hz took the opportunity not to refute my points, but to (confusingly) bash Fender.
