What would you do with this (G&L content)?

i'm going to g&l on friday in fullerton to begin the process of having my new three bolt LB100 neck made, we are going to do a little investigating first though to determine the metal used for my sb-2 neck's frets and the actual profile of my 83 L2k which was almost exactly the same as the LB100, but not quite, just a little narrower and a little flatter, i'm getting a neck made, because it's actually going to be more of a fun field trip that i can photograph for my professional portfolio[/QUOTE

If it's allowed by G&L, it would be great to see those photos.

:cautious:...... Pics from Leo's office or it didn't happen......

Aggressive sanding to bare wood, at least on the flat surfaces to make an assessment of a further plan. If somebody used aircraft stripper and it soaked into the wood, it is a very strong acid which may be causing delam of the wood. Further, at least with the paint that I use, stripper that you cannot remove from metal or which is not properly neutralized WILL cause paint to fail.Since you are working with wood and there is no way to effectively neutralize the stripper, it may be even more risky! OR not! Not necessarily right away but down he road. It's your project so have at it and good luck. I really hope it makes into something cool!

I don't know, looks pretty bad, but I bet the wood has dried nicely on that one :D

For $20, it may be worth investigating... if it's structurally sound, it could be a cool project... not sure what finish would work on that, but I assume it needs one if you don't want charcoal stains :)

edit: just saw the damage is not from fire... nevermind my remarks :D good luck with it!

I'm eyeing a 6 bolt G&L neck on eBay that should fit.

Ya, you'll need an actual G&L neck. You'll notice that the neck heel for G&L necks are square while Fender rounds theirs - Fender necks won't fit a G&L body.

If you're willing to stalk eBay for a while, you'll probably find something that works for reasonably cheap.

Also, keep in mind that the L series Tribute and US models use the same US made pickups. You might be able to find someone parting out the electronics from a Tribute L2000 on the cheap.

G&L have unique neck pockets and proprietary pickup sizes. Unless you get factory replacements (good luck), you're in for a lot of work......

While not the cheapest way to do things, just about everything needed to restore the bass but the neck can be purchased from the G&L online store. Pickups and bridge included.

You can also have G&L build you a new neck, but I'm guessing that would make the project a bit pricey. :)

I'm eying a G&L made in Korea Tribute neck (6 bolt) on eBay that auction ends Thursday. I'm presuming a MIK G&L neck should fit?

I'm thinking of a single L series pick up in the neck position and I'll fill in the bridge pickup cavity before I refinish the body.

I presume I can wire this L series pick up passive using regular CTS 250k pots? I would also like to add a switch to split the pick up which I presume can be done because it's a 4 wire pick up?

The damage around the neck ferrules would have given me pause as to whether the hunk of wood is salvageable, but I guess you'll find out soon. You may need to drill them out and dowel them for there to be enough integrity for securing the neck.
Some things are made to be seen as challenges, some things need to be seen for what they are.

It should fit. I have an Indonesian Tribute neck installed on a 6-bolt USA body and it works fine. There is a small gap in the pocket but with 6 bolts it's not an issue.

Regarding parts, they come up on TB classifieds occasionally if you are patient, but they tend to sell quick.
