What would YOU like from Guitar Center?

I did think of one thing. I would like you to back up your Markbass products properly. I purchased a Markbass LMK from a fellow TB'er and when I brought my head into GC looking for a replacement fuse ( which is really hard to find, radio shack does not even carry them) I was told that GC does not stock them.I have since switched to Genz Benz due to this lack of product support. As a working full time musician, I can not afford to be without an amp for the weeks or months required to ship my head back to Italy, or wait on parts from Italy.

GC is what it is. plain and simple. there are more weekend warriors out there then pros so I dont expect GC to cater to me.

I would, however, like them to be more diligent about their customers. Asking parents to stop letting their kids destroy the place and just have a little more pride in general about the store. Maybe some amp iso-rooms for the "sunshin of your love"ers . . . but that's pretty much my complaint w/ any chain store. I guess I'm getting old . . .

^ I can't stand THOSE people who feel it nessecary to lay Stairway or Higher Grpund as loud as possible. Like just today when i was in Daddy's Junky Music, employee comes over, grabs a bass i was planning one trying, plugs it into the GK half stack, and riffs away for like 20 minutes straight, loudest one in the store. I try to be considerate. Even when i was aplying guitars, i kept the volume under 3.

I actually went to a GC to buy a used amp once. Saw it one night and went back in the morning when there wasnt anyone there to try it out. there was one douche (the only guy in the store) playing soo loud I gave up trying to listen and just was farting around. Turned out the guy was the manager. :rollno:

I've resigned myself to buying on-line to places w/ good return policies. I don't buy a lot of basses so I dont need to find the "one" in a shop. it actually works out. I dont buy anything unless I'm willing to eat the shipping cost to return it... needless to say I dont make many bad purchases . . .

I would like to see my guitar center plug in amps. Lol!

I went there yesterday and only two amps were plugged in. A Behringer combo and another small combo.

Ya know --- that (^) might've been on purpose too! Think that over.

HIJACK WARNING!

I watched a guy come in GC with a handful of blown fuses for his MB.

First - why so many bad fuses in MBs? Something going on there that isn't talked about in public?

Secondly, they are just an automotive fuse. No more, no less. Just be sure to get them in S/B denomination as they have to take a heavy hit at first (why?) and they will take out an SFE or AGC pretty quickly.

I heard an uninformed salesperson tell the guy that the 8Amp/240 (5mmx20mm glass tube-type) volt denomination would blow his amp because US homes are all 120Volt.

Bandini!

Fuses are safety devices for Amperage or overages of them, not voltages. The PDF from MB even states that the fuse is 240V from the factory in the US models.

PDF HERE

But really - what's all the fuse failures in these units anyway? I see it constantly.

/HIJACK WARNING!

Chris from Canada has a point, aye. In my experience most of the guys/gals working at Guitar Center were kids trying to earn a buck - just like me before I became an old geezer. Research the equipment yourself and then have GC order it for you if it's not in stock. There are SOME experienced and knowledgeable musicians working at GC but these are the few and far between. That's not all bad news. Educate yourself before going to GC. They're great order takers and the prices are competitive.

I actually live in mexico but when I want real music variety I need to go to GC and the nearest is in Mc Allen or Brownsville (which I frequently go) and boy they need to clean up the store , McAllen well..its ok..nothing out of the ordinary ,really nice staff (most of the times) and a so so stock, the bronwsville GC just needs to get a Bass dedicated area , the current "area" it's really really poor , also the setups already mentioned , hate to get there and get a bass with action so high fretting it's imposible.... also Guitar hero fans who suddenly want to play bass and are just stalking you while you play :/

Oh, one more thing. I bought an SVT once from Guitar Center. Brought in my own cabinet and asked them to set me up in a separate room where I could try it out without having to hear all those other douche bags playing really loud. It's the only way to try out equipment there.

I can live with the service at GC it equals what I receive at most of the larger music stores.
It does not surprise me to find the cool guy with the long hair doesn't actually play but has carried the amplifiers for some of his buddies......

When I have had set up work performed on my bass guitars at the GC in Towson Maryland it has been top notch, very satisfied.

What really burns me is when GC advertises a huge sale....... and its always something like %15 off all purchases of $299.00 or more. What the heck is that! Don't do me any favors guys.

I went into the little mom and pop music shop in Westminster Maryland, they had a %15 off sale on everything, and this wasn't a going out of business sale either they have been around forever.
I planned on buying a couple of short cords for my pedals and ended up walking out with a Line 6 wireless system, list price $299.00 with 15% off.

The real sale got me to go to the store, when GC has a sale I just laugh and keep on walking because I know there are no bargains in GC.

Thanks everybody for the responses.
I've been without the internet for the past week so I haven't been able to follow-up with this thread and post a response.

I appreciate everybody keeping this thread on track. It speaks volumes about this forum & the community in regards to the maturity and respect of all the players & enthusiast on this board. Thank you very much.

I just thought of something- I need a 25' XLR and thought of this thread and almost wandered over to post that since I'm feeling sarcastic today. Made me think of something I DO appreciate about GC. I appreciate the fact that they honor the "lifetime guarantee" on cables with so little hassle. It is nice to know that I just have to walk in with a bad one and they will just toss me a new one and I'm on my way. At least that's how it is in OKC.

I can honestly say better staff...where I live the GC staf caters to the Mexican nationals that come across the border.

As a US citizen it is frustrating to go in to store to buy something just to be ignored becaue some friggin' fresa is standing there in his flashy Euro-trash clothing...this is not just a GC it is just about EVERY retail store in the area.

Also, when it comes to the bass selection at my local GC, it sucks. Their accordion selection is better than the bass section...it is sad.

Ultimately I'd like to see the demise of all major retail corporations and get back to the "mom & pop" shops...

My apology if someone had mentioned this before, but GC or MF should serve (ship) worldwide already. It's just frustrating, if i want something from the online music shop but they dont do worldwide shipping...really..
I mean, for such huge company (GC..MF..etc..) i found it, it's too bad...
Or maybe open up a branch in some countries other than US..

Cheers!
