What would YOU like from Guitar Center?

I'd like to see a separate bass pedal section and better stock of bass pedals. Every GC I've been in has the few bass pedals they have mixed in with their guitar pedals and as a result you have to play them through a guitar amp.

I wanna sit down with a selection of basses and have a decent bass combo to play through while trying out pedals.

I remember walking in a few years back into my GC and they had a Squier VM fretless bass marked at $79. I thought why, and continued my visit. On the way out, I saw why. It had a bow in the neck severe enough that the strings were an inch off the fretboard. And they would not set it up. Come to think of it, I'm not sure they knew how to set it up.

The last few times I have gone there has been NOTHING of interest to me. But I am not their target buyer. I like higher end, I don't like Ampeg or Acoustic so that takes out their amps. You can get a Fender anywhere. I'll stick to online.

the local GC to me is kinda lame. the bass stock usually is dusty Fenders and EB/MM. most of the sales staff is, at best temporary. there is always a new face there every time i go. However, i did get to meet one of the most amazing bassists i have ever had the pleasure to watch and hear play. the dude is a total class act too.

I have 3 GC's sort of in my area (within 90 minutes of each other), but I primarily go to the one in East Brunswick, NJ. They have always been helpful, but not predatory, when I go in. Maybe I'm just lucky, but the guys almost always have a pretty good idea about the gear.

I avoid GC on the weekends for all the obvious "kiddie-wanking" reasons, but other than that I think it's a pretty professionally run shop.

Being a primarily 6 & 7 string player, there isn't much in the bass area that interests me. What I would like to see is a better selection of ERB string sets, but I realize that they aren't the hottest ticket at the store. And I'd also like to see some more diversity in the PA's and lighting equipment ... :cool:

Strings.

I don't understand why GC doesn't carry more strings.
Let's say strings are $20 a set average wholesale, for every $2000 they could stock 100 more sets, maybe that is 5 sets of 20 different string brands/sizes.

Mail order strings are easy enough, but usually I forget, and need a quick set. If I knew GC had my strings, I'd probably skip the mail order altogether and stop in there all the time for strings.

If I stop in, I'm probably likely to buy something else, which of course leads to a lot of the other problems people point out....

The last time I went to GC, I could not find a cable anywhere to try out a bass I was looking at (Sliverburst Sterling 4 string.) I generally do not like to bother the salespeople if I think I might be just messing around, but I have bought quite a few basses when I thought I was just messing around! :)

If you could bring back Ken Smith Rock Master strings, I would be there every other week! I miss the Thomastik ones, too, but I do not go through those as fast.... I generally get a set of the flats and leave them on a bass forever.

If you can get people in there every week or two buying strings, they will be more likely to see a bass they want while they are in the store.

Last time I was at GC I bought a used keyboard. True, I looked at the basses (such I cared to, given the paltry selection of *good* instruments).

I still don't like GC, but I have to say that in the last year, I've gotten two really good deals on used items...
