I'm not sure that's an opinion. My true opinion is, there may be life out there, OR our planet may be the only one with life.
There's a third path between believing extraterrestrials exist and believing they don't, which is to withhold belief. While I think the existence of extraterrestrials is probable, I am rationally compelled to withhold belief unless/until extraordinary evidence can justify believing they do exist. To me believing there are UFOs is easier to comprehend than there isn’t. I’m ready for solid proof. I think the people are ready for the truth at this point.
I'm not sure that's an opinion.
Unless....one deems it rational, thats up to them not anyone else...Until then, there is no rational basis for belief
Imagine how many UFO sightings the B2 Bomber is responsible for.I think many UFOs are just drones. Especially in the last 10 years or so. They are everywhere. Both large and small.
That sounds nice; however what matters here is the objective truth, not people's opinions. The above credo allows for mutually exclusive, contradictory, beliefs regarding a singular matter of fact. Either extraterrestrials exist or they don't. An individual's opinion has no impact on the objective truth of the matter.Unless....one deems it rational, thats up to them not anyone else...
This is one of those topics where anyone can be right, but projecting ones opinion on others and claiming it to be the only true answer just isn't right
That post was intended to establish a rational framework for answering the question. Physicists seek 5-sigma confirmation before announcing new discoveries, which means that there is only a 1 in 3,500,000 probability that their result is due to random chance. In order to have that degree of certainty we're going to need a lot stronger evidence of extraterrestrials. Personal testimony, while fascinating, is simply insufficient.Lots of words to say no one knows....which is the truth, but not knowing all the info that everyone has on the subject makes it hard to truly know what the truth is....circular discussion..lol,
what i'm hung up on is the definition of "rational" that words seems to leave wiggle room imo...
I believe in non-intelligent human life.![]()
Just remember, when the time comes, it’s a cookbook.
The fact is, a UFO is merely a figment of a science fiction writer's imagination. One that has remained in our collective imagination as well.
It's not impossible that an older, wiser civilization might find us worth studying right now
That said, the universe is close to 13.8 billion years old so there could be lifeforms out there that could be a million years ahead of us from a technical standpoint and have the means to visit the earth. In comparison, our solar system is relatively young and is only 4.5 billion years old.
"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" - Carl Sagan
Wasn't it also Sagan who said "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" ? He was a pretty smart guy. And an optimist.
