I have a Gibraltar drummer throne with adjustable height and removable back panel. Got it used. Ultra stable. Bike-style seat, extra thick ass pad cushion, pure awesome. Lower the back, and it practically stows right under my crappy desk out of the way.

I work in front of my computer all day and sometimes all night. My Herman Miller Aeron has been awesome - fewer back problems. Its definitely one of the best purchases I've made for myself over the years.

I've got a swivel office chair at home that I've had for years and still suits me really well. I do need something for practicing at home, though. Excellent idea of using a drummer's throne with a back. A useful thread in OT, who'da thunk it?

The only reason I didn't say "BUY AN AERON THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS" was because he wanted to play bass and record (which I assume is computer-based).

The Aeron is amazing beyond words. The kind that you can have for twenty years without wanting any other.

Thanks. What's nice about the bike-style seat is dependent on your posture and leg position I found in the past one leg would go numb after a while because of how a square pad would hit the underside of my leg. Not so with the drum throne. And since the height is adjustable, I don't have to sit on one leg to get height to keep the bass on my lap with my huge gut. ;)

Ever try setting up a standing desk? Loving it at work solved a lot of problems.
(really it's just a regular table with broken PCs I stacked on top of it for height.)

Go steal some milk crates and give it a try.

I was waiting for someone to say Herman Miller Aeron, never tried one but I fear I'd whoop out the cash for one if I did, I sit behind a desk all day, but when at home I'm on a leather couch, which my wife swaps cushions out so all three have similar wear and tear....

I want one of those ampeg padded barstool to practice on one day, in my MAN CAVE! lol!

I have one of those Aeron chairs in my man cave. I don't really play sitting down, but I do use it a lot for mixing and editing. Gotta say it does the job well :smug:

Yeah Aeron chairs are the best cord wrapping agents I've seen. They should market mini ones and put it on a spit. I bet it would wrap a cord as good as any of those hose storing things.

I just set up my music room in our new house. I bought a dining room chair at World Market. It is a wooden, armless chair with nicely padded seat and back. the best part is it came in brown leather and Sonic Blue! Of course, I went Sonic Blue since it is a music room after all!

My girlfriend has used a Herman Miller Aeron chair for years. This year she bought me one for Christmas. It is what I sit in all day.


Except when I play drums or bass, then I use a a Pork pie throne.

+2 for the inflatable yoga/exercise ball. I have a 65 cm one and I totally love it for this purpose.
--No cord wrapping ever.
--No interference with bass or arms ever.
--Super comfy.
--Super inexpensive (like $20)

Generally a WIN.
