Whatcha watching?

Planning on watching that. I sadly missed the inaugural, but caught several of the following years.

Same here. I went to the 2nd one in 1992 when the Chili Peppers headlined. They were fine, but Pearl Jam is the one that stands out in my mind. They were 2nd on the bill, and they’d obviously been placed there before Ten blew up. The crowd reaction was intense, and I felt sorry for whomever went on after them.

Oh yeah, PJ was on FIRE, unlike the Peppers, who were merely on fire.

The Outsider Stephen King. A pretty good adaptation of an excellent book. Some things are a bit clunky but overall I’m enjoying it and its worth a watch.

Also watched Fallout recently as my son plays the game and wanted to watch it. It’s a really original sci fi comedy. Maybe not for the sci fi purist but put a smile on my face. Can’t wait for season 2.

I really enjoyed The Outsider, I've watched a couple of times. Also enjoyed Fallout and I'm looking forward to the next season.

Finished Outer Range season 2 this morning. Maintained it's excellence, in my opinion, and set itself up for season 3. I've only heard talk of 3rd season, nothing concrete as far as I know.

A favor from y'all. Don't tell my wife I finished it. Shhhh... She wanted to watch other things while I was jonesin' to keep watching.

Sooo... I cheated on her yesterday and today while she was at work. Which, without context, sounds pretty awful LOL.

Yesterday, also watched a film called Song of Freedom (1936 British). Black lead actors, with rich bass-baritone singing by Paul Robeson (concert artist, actor, pro football player, activist) as a dock worker in England who's discovered to have a great voice, becomes an international star, and discovers he's king of an African island where much of the movie takes place. Enjoyed this one.

It's basically David-Lynch-Does-a-Western, but with slightly, only slightly, less dream logic/flourishes.
Seeing a lot more Cormac McCarthy than anything else. Far as I'm concerned the jury is still out on the trippy bits.
Also watched Fallout recently ... Can’t wait for season 2.
That's one thing about it. You just know they're gonna ride it like Slim Pickens rode the bomb in Dr Strangelove.

Great show, though.

Fury Road was polarizing. I loved it as a mindless action movie. Characters that were compelling enough to carry the narrative enough to technically make it a movie and not a series of scenes and action and a story entertaining enough to make it a great action movie. Those that disagree think it was dumb and needed character development. Those people will like Furiosa. I was so excited to see this movie I saw it at 7pm on a Thursday after being at work all day. I regret this choice. This movie is not good. It gives you character development and it takes two and a half ******* hours to do it. Everything in a movie that people who loved the first one is missing from this. People who hate the first one might like this. I don't know. I think it sucked. Hemsworth was great. I think it's the first time I've seen him actually act.

Watching this again as it's now on Amazon Prime in an extended edit (not sure if available in the US?)
Really good and great cinematography. About Polish highlanders - a very specific subculture unto themselves (sort of like with the Amish or others in the US) - and two brothers, one advocating collaboration with the Germans for preservation and the other with the partisans. Fairly standard set up but avoids clichés. Really well done IMO.

I’d heard good things about Fury Road for years. I finally sat down to watch it recently, and I got 10 mins in before I said “nope” and hit stop. CGI- heavy, style over substance movies just aren’t for me, which is also why I haven’t seen any Marvel movies.

Fury Road was very heavy on practical effects. Around 80%+. Granted, many of those were hybrid being overlaid with CGI backgrounds, edges, etc as well as the usual color grading, etc (generally the case on almost all films and doing usual things like shooting day for night, etc). That said, the Citadel location (the big rock formations) was CGI and featured towards the beginning so I can see how it might make it seem like the whole movie would be.

The practical nature of Fury Road seems to be causing expectations backlash with Furiosa as it IS much more CGI/VFX reliant.

Fury Road had amazing practical effects. Plenty of CGI too, but lots of real explosions and awesome stunt work. I'm trying to think of a memorable action set piece from Furiosa and can't. They added character development to this one and took away awesome action.

Fair enough. I didn’t know it also featured a lot of practical. But I could tell within a few minutes that it wasn’t my thing, so I probably won’t be seeing Furiosa either.

I really enjoyed Fury Road but I appreciate character development so maybe I'll like Furiosa? My wife, a Mad Max fan, wasn't impressed with Fury Road but wants to see Furiosa so maybe she'll enjoy it as well?

...

Guess we'll find out.
