What's a good bass in the $2k or lower range?

My money is on the MM Stingray HH. I hear nothing but good things about the Laklands & Sadowskys. I'd love an MM HH with sweepable mids. Is anyone at Ernie Ball listening to me? MM HH with sweepable mids!

Ibanez ATKs have a sweepable mid eq. Anyway, I don't think you need to pay up to $2000 for a good bass, just check out various $400-800 offerings and you will be surprised about the quality and sound. Either you pay a lot for features and quality you don't need -- especially touring with a guitar that will get nicked over time. Or then sometimes the name itself adds another $300 to the sticker price, or even more. --Kent

the 4003 is a good choice. i just ordered mine, cant wait for it to arrive. when i played one at the store it gave me shivers. i connected instantly. the action is perfect (it might just be me, tho) and the pu cover isnt to hard to get around

Interesting tips -- I do understand that basses don't have to be expensive to be quality, I was just letting you know my price range. Hopefully some time soon I can go down to the local guitar center and try out their basses.

Spector Euro LX or a Lakland 44-02, Im more of a 5 string kind of guy and would say Musicman Stingray 5 if your ever looking for a 5ver.

Used Sadowsky Metro, that's what I would do.

Or even a used Sadowsky NYC. I paid just under $2k for my used NYC Jazz 4 and it is amazing.

Any Sadowsky you buy will likely stay with you forever.

A bit lower priced? Lakland 44-02 (under $1K used and about $1300 new), Fender MIA P or J Standard basses ($800-900 used or $1200 new), EBMM Stingray (under $1K used and about $1300-1400 new)... and dozens of others...

My vote goes for a used AB I or AB II. They are high quality, custom made basses (very under-rated)
