What's all the hate for Pete Wentz?

i mean don't get me wrong he's not the most technically proficient bass player in the world, but I can think of players FAR worse than him (for example: Sid Viscious and I've heard Robert Trujillo is pretty bad too). The man has an awesome stage presence and personality! Not to mention he really knows how to write songs lyrics!

If it makes you feel any better, who? OK, honestly, I do recognize the name, but couldn't even tell you who he plays with or whether I'd ever heard any of his music.

Maybe you should go out with him sometime. He might write a song about you!

I just don't care for his basslines or his antics. I don't hate him.
He makes my eyeballs do barrel rolls a lot. I'll say that much for him.
I think Patrick Stump is the main noteworthy talent in Fall Out Boy.

Trujillo is a good pro level player by any definition.

I've 'heard' all kinds of stuff about people my whole life, including myself.

Personally I only state opinions if I have a good reason to believe something based on personal experience or verifiable evidence.

Hearsay means absolutely zero in the real world.

People say he sucks because he doesn't do anything really flashy, just typical pop punk playing. like playing root notes, using a pick , just playing on the low strings, most his lines are lke E|5555555555555555553333333333333377777777777

Me neither, but that's not unusual. Hell, I thought the guy with the long white beard who was seen at the recent NAAM show was a reality TV star who sells duck calls.

What I'm wondering is why this is posted in "Basses", which is a forum about instruments.

Shouldn't this be posted on the "Bassists" board?? Bassists [BG]

You mean Lee Sklar? Ouch.

There's tons of punk players (or any other genres) that play simple lines. I've heard many people here state that sometimes simplicity is the best. I'm sure if he played more flashy lines, someone would complain that he's a show off or something. If you like Pete, go ahead! People are going to find something to hate, no matter the player...
