What's all the hate for Pete Wentz?

Too pretty. And he plays uninspiring bass parts and makes an unjust amount of money to do so. But mostly he's too pretty.
Well the former Mike and Bob show and their interns in Virginia Beach where im from used to say (on and off the radio) that Wentz and Jared Leto from 30 sec to Mars were both COLOSSAL d-bags every time they encountered them. Maybe people just dont like him for a reason of personality more so than his music. I heard him on that radio show and he was a jerk to everyone and was being annoying on purpose. Just a thought
No Trujillo hate. That's guy's a consummate pro. He's working with the two meanest dickheads playing on the planet today and hasn't even tried to kill one of them yet.

Well, they don't do it for me either, but I have seen them in concert (escort for my daughter and friends), and the put on a great show for the kids. Add to that, comments to the audience that were very positive, "be yourself" & "don't let anyone else define you" sort of messages that as a father, were comforting to hear. Far better than the things I used to hear at concerts 20/30 years ago.
And what is "punk" anyway? If you think you can define what it is and what it isn't, you have already lost the argument with me.
How long ago was this? I ask based on my earlier comment about an interview with him that I read.
I personally don't care about Fallout Boy or Pete Wentz.
Pop punk is generally "simplified basslines" anyways. Generally speaking. So why do you expect him to pull off any slapping or other techniques?

I think it's probably a combination of how much money/celebrity he has relative to his limited musical abilities, topped off by Squier giving him a sig model, which triggers all the butthurt over him. To me, no biggie, more power to him. I'm happy enough with my life, don't need to hate on his. My daughter is a big Fallout Boy fan, I like one or two songs of theirs well enough but not that into them. Again, no biggie. As far as I'm concerned, if there's a bass playing teen heartthrob that gets kids to go to music stores and buy his sig model, then Lord bless him. Some of those kids will go on to surpass him.
And I don't think it's accurate to call him a "poser." I don't think he pretends to be anything other than what he is - a pretty-face boy-band bassist. If you get your panties in a bunch over whether "pop-punk" is really "punk," then just call it "power pop" instead and take a valium. The Green Day guys, on the other hand - to me, that's what counts as a "poser," acting as though they're the voice of rebellious social consciousness while raking in the dough. That group always reeked of hypocrisy to me.

I don't know a bar of FOB music and don't have a dog in this (or the Trujillo) fight, but I'd bet that if he hadn't gone all attention-whore and tabloid-married Ashtray Simpson, he'd garner a tad more respect.
Green Day is super punk, look at all the eyeliner they wear! They are scam.
