What's all the hate for Pete Wentz?

And the "Blinding Flash of the Obvious Award" goes to........
yeah-well-thats-just-like-your-opinion-man.jpg

Seriously? The most recorded bassist in the history of the world?
;) OK, I admit I know who Lee Sklar is. But, generally, I'm oblivious to the fame / celebrity thing.

Some famous bass player died recently and there were a bunch of posts on here about him so I looked him up. The strange thing was that he looked a lot like Super_Freak, one of the regular posters here on TB. You read a lot of someone's posts here on TB and you 'think' you get to know them a bit but now I'm starting to have some doubts. I don't know what to believe anymore. It's all an illusion.

Hell, I saw a video of another TB regular, JimmyM, recently and he doesn't look anything like his avatar. The dude isn't even black! It's all just too confusing.

I guess I need to look up this guy Pete now. I love bassists who can thrash 3 or 4 notes! :bassist: Oh yeah.

Trujillo is a MONSTER - don't look to his current Metallica stint for reference. Actually - go on YouTube and search Trujillo flamenco guitar. There's a clip of him in the studio ripping out some really nice guitar.

Anyways - people don't like Wentz because:
1) chicks dig him
2) he doesn't play YYZ
3) He and his band are pretty successful

I'm not a huge Fallout Boy fan, but I have to give them some props for at least attempting to carry the rock torch amongst the sea of electronic garbage we are wading through.

But even fall out boy has gotten more into the techno crap. Have you heard their latest releases?

I don't know anything about him other than he has a signature Squier I believe. Where are people criticizing him?

Sting wasn't the best bass player either, but people seem to like him and he's had some signature models.

Sting? Really? He's an awesome player! Maybe he's known more as a singer, but the man is a complete musician.

All the hate for Pete Wentz is because there are hundreds of guys on this forum who could play him under the table, but he's living the dream (instead of us! how dare he!). Of course, Mr. Wentz is laughing all the way to the bank.

Same thing with Michael Anthony of Van Halen. He's another guy who catches a lot of crap from other bass players who claim the guy can't play, or that he's the luckiest man in rock, or some such. I personally never understood this kind of thing. I'm not familiar with Pete Wentz other than that I once saw Fall Out Boy on SNL (not my cup of tea), but the fact remains that he's doing what most of us only dream about.

without sifting through four pages. Sid Vicious could barely play but was more of a novelty and stage act. He was really just a big Pistols fan who wanted to be more like Johnny Rotten than a bassist. Robert Trujillo is amazingly good so I don't know where you got that info. Also someone mentioned Sting not being that good. Again, very false. You try singing while playing unlined fretless and see how you fare.
I would put Pete Wentz in the Roger Waters category of bassists. They are more song writers and do what they need to fit the song without being flashy. Although Roger can sing and play pretty well. Plus he has years of experience (playing since the 60's).
Let anyone think that punk requires little talent, try playing a few Minutemen, Dead Kennedys, and Descendents songs and than talk.
