I don't know enough about what each pedal does for bass. I think mu-trons are phasers. I'm looking for something a little different. some pedal just don't work for bass and I don't want to go buy something just to return it,:help:

I've been using an Ibanez PH-7 Phaser for a few years now. I like it better than a Flanger. It just depends on the tone you want; you can find whichever pedal fits your tastes from there.

I always liked the nasty, swirly sweeping (almost Jet plane like) sound of Phasers, especially when you kick in the fuzz and distortion. It sounds more...I dunno, I guess surreal. Flangers just seem to add some shine on top of the playing to me.

To each his own.

The "Mu-trons" are a filter. They are a little different than Phasers and Flangers but are probably more popular with Bassists. There are Envelope Phasers that react like a filter and they are very cool. Welcome to the wonderful world of modulation with many flavors and opinions to be had you will definately at some point buy a pedal just to return it!!! But it will be fun finding which ones you prefer(I prefer phasers over flangers). Have fun.....

I really like using both. Phaser is going to be milder with the tone. Flanger takes your tone to outer space. Both sound incredibly cool and have a use in certain types of music live.

I use both the MXR phaser and MXR flanger. They keep bottom end on my bass just fine and I can still be heard in the mix. The flanger jumps out in the mix a little more then the phaser, but both are incredibly awesome.

I highly reccomend you get to a music store and try them out. If the music store doens't carry a quality brand, then at least try a crappy one so you know what it will do with your bass. Even though youtube is great, hearing it first hand makes a big difference.
