OP's useage is confusing because there's something out there called a 4003s. This is what editors fix.

The less fancy, binding-less model is the 4003S (note the capital S). 4003s are a group (more than one 4003 together).

Yeah. I get an impulse to get it for my collection, because I like the green, but the extra for the price on these and other special colors has been too rich for my blood. I also can’t stand the checkered binding, and it would bug me. I’m satisfied with my FireGlo too.

there have been quite a few retailer exclusives with toaster pickups in recent years and some non retailer exclusives left the factory with them as well. these have VP (vintage pickup) designations.
