Yeah it took alot of sanding to clean up some "clumps" it is a learning curve. The backs detail came out better then the front imo.

So after the first attempt ran into issues at the clear coat stage, I sanded back and started over on the next swirl paint project. This is an Ibanez Mikro, I call it "Dinky" (yes I name them). Personally I'm actually much happier with version 2.0 than I was with the first attempt. So yeah, I guess things happen for reasons.
It gets a black pickguard, so nothing too extreme here. I'll let this dry for a couple days before I clear it.

Thanks. We'll see how the clear coat goes this time. The first version the clear totally cracked the swirl paint and I had to sand it all back off. I'm still unsure what the issue was there. Had a few people say it was the clear coat (it was just a rattle can from Home Depot) reacting with the paint layer. Everyone suggested using 2K so I'm gonna go that route. But honestly I'm a little scared because I hear some people say "let it dry for several days before you clear" and some people say "don't wait longer than a day or so before you clear". So I really don't know what to do here.Nice job, that looks really pro!

I can't get this thing out of my head, so I'll have to make one to satisfy. So many cool details...and it sounds cool. I'll use my own design...or maybe a mothman mashup version.

That one is super crazy, and super cool! I thought you guys would enjoy those links, there’s some pretty neat and imaginative work in there!
Okay, got the 2K clear sprayed. Put a whole can on the beast, in many many light layers. Appears we are good to go this time around! So note to self: spray the clear pretty soon after doing the paint. This was my first time messing with 2K clear, so a real learning curve for me. But so far I'm diggin' it. We'll see how well it wet sands and buffs before I make my final determination.
I'll let that dry for a few days before I wet sand and buff. I will say, the glitter silver sparkles really show through the clear coat, so I'm guessing after buffing they will pop a ton!
On another note, one of my buddies I've known since high school messaged me the other day and said "I want you to paint one of my basses!" He's got a Dean V that he wants to do a Randy Rhoads polka-dot tribute with it. Part of me laughed, the other part knew he was kinda serious and went "How you gonna get outta this one, dog?"
