Some combination of drawings with poor handwriting, a supplier who didn't understand or care what it was supposed to say, and a contract for a large quantity.
When I worked for Rolls-Royce they were extremely picky about that kind of thing. I did a drawing for an engine name plate and there was a delay of several months while it went to head office for approval.
I get almost as much enjoyment from restoring socket chisels as I get from using them.
Funny I checked this thread when I did as I just picked this out of my neighbor’s trash this afternoon!* A couple of minutes with a wire brush revealed it to be a Stanley “Sweetheart”. A pretty old one, at that.
*No, I don’t have much pride and I refuse to pay the usual auction site prices for socket chisels. Besides; he’s moving and put a box of tools on the curb. It’s not like I was digging through his trash can….

Yeah, the Sweethearts are... well... sweethearts! I'm no cabinetmaker so I can't really discern the differences between the old Stanleys and any of the other antique chisels I use. The 1" Pexto, for instance, is excellent. Better than the 3/4" Stanley next to it? Jeez... I dunno! I can definitely tell the difference between the old socket chisels and the modern bench chisels, though. Tools steel was better then (usually) and any chisel from the 20s or 30s is going to outperform those blue-handled Marples in my rack. It's like night and day. The Stubai chisels are modern (25 years old, probably) but they're actually quite good.@Lo-E Nice chisel collection.
Oh, God... no! My wallet's already in constant peril at garage sales and flea markets. I have exactly zero self control when it comes to old tools. ...but if you PM'd me the FB page it wouldn't hurt my feelings.
That's really, really nice! Owning old tools is a stewardship. They'll outlive us by a long time.I've been working on restoring a couple of Disston backsaws and one modern (25ish year old) Stanley. The Disstons are pushing the 80 to 100-year-old range. I'm going with traditional handle shapes but not materials. All 3 are purpleheart with 2 having a top stripe of curly maple. Here's the first:

They're just rough-shaped right now and need lots of refinement but it sure is fun "making" the tools to make other stuff

Nice. I have a JTM30 also. Have to jumper the effects loop also. Sounds really good though.

Speaking of planes, I found a guy recently who does monthly lists of old tools for sale. mostly planes. First come first serve.
The September list came out and I picked a few,… one was unsold so I got it. I’m afraid I’ll be a repeat customer. Prices better than evil bay, better quality. Good selection.
im already itching for his October list.

Cool Matt! it's surprising that over the years the JTM30 (production from '94-'97) that the amp, if it survives the known heat issues, mellows out.

Working on shortscale mustang style. It is funny, I have measurements of 34" scale so triple check before anything is needed 
I know these words are in English but, for some reason, I can’t understand them.
As I recall, by the time they finally approved it, we didn’t need it anymore. Typical.
What intrigues me far more is how the word "on" is neatly centered both times, but the "1" and the "2" are not.
I thought I saw that too. Wasn't sure how accurate the centering might be on these. Guess this plate is like those mint-error coins collectors like.
I think the reason Chris had this plate was because of the print error. Must've swapped it out on a bass. He was happy he didn't have to throw it away when he closed shop last year as the plate would be used no matter.
He just gave it to me and shipped it.
The plate on the bass I have is this size with four screws and was looking for one for a while. The plate that's on there is crumbling. Could not find just the plate without the controls. No one seems to know why Hofner doesn't sell just the plates. Writing to Germany gets no reply. I don't think they're in the parts business as it were.
The bass is really worn and I'm leaving it that way. Just getting it more sound as the panels have come apart, the glue has given up. A luthier who is experienced in these guitars is working on it right now. It has a deep bass response the last time I played it, with the blade pickups.
I have no idea where those knobs are from. I have not seen anything close to it anywhere even looking at old radio/TV knob photos. Nor know any real info on the bass as to the history. Got the bass from a luthier decades ago at a very low price ($100) and those knobs were on there. Was intrigued by the blade pickups.
The top and back are solid wood and are arched. It looks carved to me.
It looks like this bass in a Lana Del Rey video. Anyone know who this bassist is? I've forgotten which LDR video this is.
He's got some foam or something wadded stuffed behind the bridge.

I really wanted to use this bridge on an 80s Ibanez I’ve been working on, it just looks cool. I figured I’d make it work
well, it didn’t. Too narrow string spacing and the saddles maxed out too soon but i already mounted it and it’s definitely wider than any other bridge i have so the holes i already drilled would be visible
a little thought and a router, i came up with this. I used the bridge as the template and cut this to skirt a bridge that I had that will work
Now that it’s getting put together, i think it looks pretty cool, it goes with the pickguard i made and seems to add a little something original to this project

At a former Coastie, I cringe every time I hear the word "guardian" and have flashbacks to that Kutcher/Costner film of the same name.
