What's On Your Workbench?

Yes. I waited until I got this together before responding...

Semi hollow, Hardboard top/back with poplar/swamp ash/poplar inner frame. Pearloid binding with purfling which is two .125 DR fluorescent green B strings.

Nice... It almost looks as though you fabricated your work bench around your Marshall amp...

... tell me that's an anomaly.

Thanks,

Actually I did (the top shelf section). That is my guitar amp, there is an (old version) Hartke Kickback under my bench for bass and I have the cables routed through the tuner to a switch which allows me to select which amp.

Definitely an anomaly, then again so am I. :D

The start of my Gilmore-ish Strat. I have a maple Strat MIM neck, and a new pick guard and bridge are on order.
It's GilMOUR-ish, says the Gilmour Police. You might like this website, wherein recreating Gilmourish guitars and tones is explained in incredible detail, an amazing resource for anyone who digs Dave's sound:

I've seen that site. It's pretty comprehensive.

Here's the almost final version. I'm not sure I posted it. I ended up swapping the black tipped tremolo arm for a white tipped one. Details...

Nope, The Black Strat has a " neck on" switch. Dave has his setup with the switch barely peeking above the pickguard with a recessed switch mount.

You can get the switch recess brackets on ebay, but I just used a stock mini switch in the PG.

Freaking fantastic idea. Looks good inventive as hell.
How did you finish on the string area? I would guess it's laid into a channel and then clear epoxy-filled. But I would be afraid of adhesion problems if the green covering is teflon.

Thanks!

I used a self leveling epoxy resin; the string (very) slightly protrudes above the surface (less than .010")... No adhesion problems as of yet but time will tell. Hopefully not.

I am building another one and the string will be completely inlaid into the body and I will make the channel cleaner; the channel on this one is a little rough in areas... I'm nitpicking, not that bad but I know it's there.

final nut fitting ... then a string tree, pickguard screws, a couple knobs, and this one is ready to go

too bad that Candy Tangerine finish doesn't play nice with my phone camera and shop lights :(

Finally got around to turning my latest driftwood billet into a flitch, er... flitches... er, back to back cut slices from a log that still have raw edges. :)

I think these will be... gasp... guitar tops. I'm also pretty sure they are maple now that I've cut them on the bandsaw...

Consecutive slices

Set 1, knots inward

Set 2, knots outward

And of course once you get going, it's hard to stop, so I sliced up this one too. This one was quite wet when I found it, but after a couple of years in the rafters of my heated shed, it's good to go. I don't know what this is, but I suspect it's a cedar or cypress of some kind. These are 7.5" by about 20", and all of them are around 1/2" thick...
