What's On Your Workbench?

Guitar-heads pay big bucks for pinecasters apparently....

Which is actually kind of humorous. One of the builders who’s stuff I read online a long time ago made a pine body guitar which was roundly mocked on the forums. Then someone discovered Leo had made some prototypes out of pine and it was suddenly a holy grail body wood. :rollno::wideyed:

Brand new bottle of glue, hasn’t completely set after nearly 24 hours. Good thing I’m not using it for anything important.

That's relatively normal for that stuff - it's not meant to be used as a filler glue in thick sections, but will dry fast and clean when applied thinly.

Apparently, I’ve became the guitar tech for our band. I don’t mind too much it’s kinda fun. As long as they like it the way I set up my guitars!
I can’t instill all my beliefs though…like touching up scratches and dings. Some like it that way. No cases or gig bags.
And no strap locks…? Jeesh, that’s the first thing I do to my basses!

I set up two Tele’s this week.

Take two very large planks of poplar:

Add one very old but loyal circular saw:

And you get seven body blanks:

The planks were serving as coffee tables for a nice, young couple who moved into a smaller apartment, didn’t have room for them and posted them on FB Marketplace. At $3 per board foot I couldn’t refuse.

I don’t know when I’ll have time to utilize them but I’m happy to have them.

Hope you don't need them longer.
That's the best looking Poplar I've seen. Mine have always been bland creamy and unremarkable. Those have nice grain.
I cut one at 24” and the rest at 22”. For me, they’ll be much easier to store this way. The grain is very nice for poplar. It’s a little deceiving because there’s some sort of oil finish on it that offsets the natural greenish tinge of poplar. When I plane the pieces flat the greenish tint will be there but there’s nothing saying I can’t just oil it again. Right now it looks almost like walnut!

Took my tapped pu’s out of my most recent bass and I’m sending them back to Brantley Rewinds. The lower tap just isn’t loud enough to be useful.
If I turn up the amp so they work better…the higher tap is way too loud.
They were very gracious about it. I said I would pay any charges. I was going to order new ones, but he suggested reworking the originals.
Great place to work with.

So I decided I should put together a Word doc with a list of my current projects, or projects that are in the waiting on the rack. Good lord, what have I done?

Setting aside the Hellcaster project, which is the main focus and what we'll call #1....
The list looks like this -
  1. Ibanez Gio 6-String (Refinish project, probably do a glitter on this one)
  2. Ibanez 6-String Clone (Refinish project, I plan on keeping this one for me, planning a purple/blue cellophane finish)
  3. Ibanez RG220b 6-String (Refinish project, planning a blue/green cellophane finish)
  4. Glarry Burning Fire 6-String (Refinish project, planning a "lava" swirl, red/orange)
  5. Samic 6-String (Refinish project, planning glitter for this one too)
  6. My Ironbird Build (custom 4-string bass BC Rich Ironbird shape)
  7. ESP LTD F-105 (This one is for me, I need to build a neck for this one since I just have a body. Planning a black crackle over neon green base)
  8. Jackson JS2 Concert Bass (This one is for me, Refinish project, planning black crackle over neon rainbow base)
So 9 projects currently on the list. Of those 9, 6 are 6-string guitars, 1 of which I plan on keeping. 3 of them are bass guitars, all of which I plan on keeping. :D
Man, I need to get to work. :meh:
