What's On Your Workbench?

Trans black?

Is that the hipshot baby grand bridge? I was just talking to a friend about it. We were considering it for a guitar I'm building him but didn't think it fit (looks like we are going with a Schaller hannes bridge instead). It looks great on your guitar though.

I have used the Baby Grand before and it is a fantastic bridge. My plan A for the bridge is actually my own sort of take on the baby grand, but with more rounded profile and with a different saddle arrangement. If that doesn't work, I will have to decide between a baby grand or a pigtail wraparound style bridge.

I'm not sure if there is enough figure for trans black, but I will test it on my scrap, for sure! Emerald green sounds intriguing, but as a colorblind guy, I don't know that I would be able to do it "right" :). I could do opaque, I suppose, but I think this guy should have at least some grain visible. I already have other guitars that are heritage cherry, trans white, trans blue, and tiger eye, so I'm thinking something that is not one of those.

I did maple/wenge/bubinga on my 6 string. I love the combo but I do wish I'd done a thin maple stripe between the other two woods to help it pop a bit.

If you want to highlight grain, stain the body black or dark brown, sand back so the flats are clean and the stain sets only in the deep grain. Seal with a coat, then spray yellow trans coats, sand, polish, buff.

Turning small pumpkins into candle holders for Thanksgiving decorations.

ahhh... pumpkin forstnering - a grand tradition in motherland Lutonia! There's an old saying..."bore a pumpkin and the shavings will gather interest!" (...it's funnier in Lutonian...) :cautious:

If it were me after doing such a nice job of integrating the cover into the back... I'd fill the screw-holes and use magnets. So much easier to remove the cover when needed and those screws just look... you could plug them with bubinga (backed with magnets) and they'd look/work much better.

That's actually a good idea. I've started doing magnets on covers. The two guitars I've posted here recently have magnets. Although, I messed those up pretty bad and glued the magnets to the outsides of the covers instead of the insides. o_O
