Cut offs are overtaking our small shop. We really need to address it somehow.
I address it with a simple rule: If it's bigger than a fretboard, I save it.
...except fancy stuff like ebony, I save scraps bigger than a nut.
Oh and figured wood, I tend to save figured scraps. Might need it for a headstock cap or other little detail.
Also cherry, because I just love it so much I can't bear to toss it.
And maple, I save maple scraps because I can cut them up to use for binding.
...and walnut smells so nice!
Also you never know when you might need a weird shape clamping caul, so you might as well save those little odds and ends, too.
So yeah I guess I have a problem too.
