Another observation about working with redwood. The smell when cutting/sanding... It's a unique smell that I can't quite describe, but it made me think of my youth. My grandfathers workshop always smelled like that, it was very pleasant.

I actually have some larch in my wood stash. It's glorified pine. Very wide growth rings and pretty soft. I've turned a few bowls out of it, which is not fun. Hard wood is better on a lathe. I laughed the entire time I was buying it "The Larch...."
I love that particular kind of quilted maple.....Reminds me of my grandparents....This is turning out so much better than I even thought...
