Whats really the difference?

The two basses are exactly the same as far as I can tell.
Only one has a 2 band EQ and one has the 3 band EQ.
One is not necessarily better than the other. It's like ice cream flavour; you pick the one you want. I am GASing hard for a 2 band 5 string ray.

There is a difference as to the nut width if that is a big deal to you. (It is for me).
The ray34ca has a nut width like that of a jazz bass which I find very comfortable.
The ray34 has a p-bass-like neck.
I went with the classic active just because of that difference.

I played a ray34 today. The neck width at the nut was thicker but no where near a deal breaker. Great bass for the money especially used. However it was the regular not the classic. Also I own an SB-14 and I really like the option of going from parallel to series.
