Whats the deal with Eden?

I have a Nemesis RS115 combo that I bought for practice that I would not part with. Tight low end. great tone, and at 340 watts plenty of power to gig with when space is an issue.

Eden has been my main amp now for well over 12 years. I have had my amp blow on me, and my speaker blown a few times. I have been using my "Highwayman" amp now for over 8 years, and with a few electrical problems, this amp delivers what I want, what I expect from this amp.

I have used whether from friends or backline, many different amps, and some are good, and some I just didn't like at all.

Just this past Saturday I played with a Salsa/Brazilian/ band at this new music jazz festival in Estonia, and they had this huge SVT-810E cab & SVT-CL bass head. There were about 3-4 bands before us, as we were the main act. I thank GOD for the backline guy, as he put a nice bass mix through my monitor.
At one point, when I fired it up before our show, I actually heard the Ampeg burp out H-E-L-P!:D

I'm a proud Eden Highwayman amp user.

ive played Eden for years and i find it to be great stuff.
my favorite all around rig is the wt800 and 4x10 xlt.
i tried the 1205 and 4x10 xst but i sold that and went back to wt800 and 4x10 xlt.
it is great for funk, r&b, jazz, praise and worship and gospel.
don't know about rock...................

Eden is a strange company. Ive bought a bunch of stuff from them before and played a bunch of other products they make. I think the eden sound is fantastic. I have a 210XST and 410XLT cabinet (both are fantastic together or separate) and i have WT1205 head. I couldnt really be happier with the sound. The nastiness towards the company comes from other sources besides their sound. I had a pretty horrible experience when i ordered my 1205. I received a bunch which were extremely damaged or had other problems. Dealing with the company was a major pain in the ass even when you have friends in high places. The people are the company ARE great people with great intentions but the way the company functions has a lot of problems. I found that branches of the company were out of contact with each other and it was hard to find someone who knew what was going on or could get things done quickly. I am proud and at the same time embarrassed to own eden products. They sound great but i feel like i had too much of my time wasted by the company.

I've had Eden cabs blow up as well as a head that exploded. The head let out the magic smoke when it was running at bedroom volumes. It took almost 6 months to get back to me. I tried to contact the company countless times, and I was ignored constantly. Then I grew out of the Eden sound. All I heard was "brrrbrrrbbbrrrBBRRRbrrr."

Now - as much as I've avoided Ampeg because of their reputation - I'm really chasing after that SVT sound. I didn't want to be a sheep, part of the cliché, look like a newb or tool. I wanted something more "boutique," more distinguished. Something "better" than the ubiquitous Ampeg sound. Ampeg was overpriced, overweight, and subpar...


Pshyeah right. I've blown way more money finding my way back to the SVT than I would have just buying a new one. I tried Eden, PJB, Hartke, Tech21, QSC, Avalon U5, SWR, Grape, Kustom, Peavey, Radiall, etc. etc.

I still like parts of those. The SWR 810 was amazing. I love the Tech21 stuff and some of the Grape cabs were unbelievable. Hartke, my first head, was actually one of my favorites. I much preferred it over the Eden.

What it boils down to is that I just grew out of the sound. However, what really soiled the relationship with the company is how they screwed around with me for months after their faulty gear came apart. There's the difference.

Eden sounds nothing like Mesa or Aggie... I went through a bought of Edenitis (WT550), but went back to Mesa because I missed the meaty ballsiness of Mesa. I thought the Eden tone sounded somewhat compressed and while it's tone was really good for certain kinds of music, it really didn't trip my trigger.

My Eden head also developed a severe case of scratchy pots... which, while didn't effect functionality, it annoyed me to know end.

I love the Eden sound, and will always play through an Eden amp. The company be damned. I'll always buy a used one, and love it. Mine won't ever be sold, and I'll buy more, as I find them cheap.

my response:....ditto to that ! im right there with you ...... Eden till i die........even if i find it used, and it had to be glued together and payed for with my last few bux , i'd buy it.....it's the new classic.....

I had an older wt300 many years ago, it was a nice little amp but it was pretty safe sounding, not a whole lotta balls. I bumped into an early SVT at the local pawn shop, that was the last eden I owned. Ironically I have gone back to SS stuff, a gk800rb, which is also a 300 watt SS head, sounds like it has 700 tho.:)

Well, it appears that things are about to change at Eden once again. The parent company (USM) was acquired today by the Canadian company Jam Industries.

I played through Eden for years. I have owned WT-600,WT-800, WT-1205, WTX-260, A metro, 410xlt,410xst, 2-210xsts. All I now have is the 260 and one 210 xst. My 1205 was a nightmare from the beginning. I pre-ordered it and it took 7 months before they actually began shipping. One channel was dead on arrival had to send it back. The amp was damaged when Eden recieved and to their credit they sent me a new one. One of the effects loops wasn't working plus the first run amps had no volume at all because of lousy gain stage. Eden offered free gain mods so I sent the amp back and asked them to fix the effects loop while they were at it. Six weeks later get the amp back and you guessed it they didn't fix the effects loop. On one of my 210xsts a speaker wire was not connected and the two covers I bought began to come apart within a month of buying them. {Rant over} My main rig now is Genz Benz and I could not be happier.

I have a used WT-405, and the thing that sold it for me was the ease I had when dialling in a sound, well to correct myself, the lack of dialling. This was the case with the other Eden heads I tried.
That and the fact it can go down to 2 Ohms is also a bonus.
I think the customer service aspect is unfortunate, and luckily I have not had a problem with my Eden gear, but like others have said, it all comes down to what YOU want to hear, and for me, I get it with Eden, and easily.

I sat in/auditioned with a band last Saturday. Used my JO5 and the Eden Metro that was on stage. Into the second song I heard a high pitched screech lost the sound. The amp didn't shut down. I switched to the 2nd channel and started to play but I stared to smell smoke so I turned it off. Man did I felt terrible. The settings were flat and the volume was about 4.

Later I looked the Metro up on Harmony Central and of the 15 reviews 5 had quality issues and terrible service. One even described the same problem that I encountered. Pretty bad for $1500 amp.

I've heard nothing but good things about Eden, however I think I'll stick with Ampeg and Markbass.

I'm the Customer service manager for Eden (I have been for a bit over a year). I agree we had service issues before I aquired the position. I believe our service to be one of the best in the buissness now. If you check out our forum (I'm also the admin) you'll see a common consenses. Occasinally we are back ordered on parts, but this happens to all manufacturers. If any one is having an issue with my service department please let me know as I want our service to be held at the same level as our tone.

Neat to see you chime in. Good you have a presence on your own forum, but I think I speak for a lot of TB-ers when I say that you'll regain your credibility at a quicker pace of you are active here. Aguilar, Genz-Benz and Markbass all have a serious presence here on the forum, and it's no accident that those guys (especially GB) are posting in any forum having to do with their gear.

But cool to see you here!

I remember when I was growing up, the bass player in my hometown with the best tone BY FAR had an Eden WT 800. I was always so jealous. I think that will always make me look at high-end Eden stuff with a bit of envy :)

I have an Eden WT405 and i absolutely love it. It provides a really even warm tone for my electrics and EUB. The pre-amp has worked great for recording and as a DI live as well. Thing is solidly built too.

I have also played through both the WTX 260/500 and think they are solid compared to other micro-heads from my limited time with them.

As someone earlier in this thread had mentioned I think that for certain specific applications/styles/tones Eden is a must consider and offers considerable value. That said for other styles/tones there are much better options than Eden. It lacks the growl or aggressiveness that people associate with GK or even Ampeg. When I play with a singer/songwriters and need something pillowy, warm and supportive the Eden is a great choice. Playing indie-rock or older R&B I miss my Markbass F1 (damn you thieves!).

I have had zero reliability issues with mine, but did not get a lot of help from their customer service when I had a question.

My Eden rigs rock the houses a'plenty. Reliable, toneful, fun! No reason to change. For me it's about the music, not about the fashion.

Having said this, I am glad to live in a country with so many great choices, and freedom to express our individual opinions regarding those choices.

I have been through more gear than I wish to admit. It is personally staggering that I have actually stuck with something through the process. I have tried most of the gear raved about on this forum. It hasn't swayed me from my Eden heads and cabs.

A lot of new stuff is really good. Yet, the breezes of hype are truly strong. It's Ford v Chevy, Republican v Democrat, Mac v PC, Protestant v Catholic, Eden v whatever. It's been said that one can measure stature of a person, or thing, by the passion of the detractors.

Say what you want about a lot of gear. Some have benchmark tone to which others aspire to achieve. I won't bore you with the list. To me, Eden has such benchmark status.

I've contacted Eden customer service twice in several years. Each time, my issues were solved in one phone call. Condolences to those with other experience.
