Whats the deal with Eden?

CHIPMUNK damage??? I wonder if that woulda been warrantied? LOL! :p

That trumps my 210xlt's birdseed issue, :rollno: Bought it from a TBer and when I opened the ship box I noticed these seeds in the ship box. Seller said previous owner shipped to him in a plastic bag that held birdseed at one time or something like that.

The more I played this cab the more I kept hearing some seeds "maraca" around in the cab. So I pulled a speaker and found alot more seeds in the cab. Alot had accumulated around the speaker cone surrounds. It was a tedious job removing all the seeds using a Q-tip and scraping/lifting dried out seeds from all in the cab. Packed it in a bag that held birdseed, jeez, why????

Bad thing, some seeds/remnants stayed in cab and it now had a "weird sour smell" from the seeds turning bad in it I suppose, so I fabreezed it. It then took on a sweet n sour smell. Then the LeCover cover took on the smell, so I had to leave it all on back patio to air out, again jeez what a pain. I could not use the cab to gig cause of the smell. Finally the smell calmed down and its a rockin 210 w/GK1001RBI in our rehearsal room now, finally but it still emits a mild, funky smell. :rollno:

And just a ship tip here. Seller left the pop off casters on the cab when it shipped. Well you know the Fedex gorillas dropped the box hard on its bottom, pushing all 4 caster tops thru the wood of the cab, into the lower port area splintering the wood at all 4 corners. Did not hinder cab tone but man, don't ever leave casters on when shipping if they pop off, triple jeez.

Fedex came by to pick it up for insurance inspect but when the driver said it would be in his van the whole day long, I said that's how it got damaged in the first place, no thanks. I called Fedex and offered to bring the cab in myself, supervisor never called me back, so I live with it, no issues have arisen.

Finally, I got a great deal on a WT550 from a online pawnshop on ebay. I'm just not real good a knob twirling/fiddlin' kinda guy, could not get my sound quickly so I flipped it to a TBer. Now, wish I could get another one and spend more time with it, I really needed the 2 ohm capability.

I now use GB NeoPak @ 2 ohms or my B1500 w/GB 112/212 cabs or my F1 with just a single cab. OH, but I also own/use 2x210xlt's & 410xlt, great cabs.

CHIPMUNK lived in your cab.... Really???? :D

glad to see CS is in hands of a TBer now, that actually counts alot to me, alot good folks on here. Hope SMU can make a difference. I met some cool folks over at Eden website when I went there to get info on my WT550, have not been there in awhile. Man, I'm missing that amp more n more.

Oh, and when I watch bands/backline groups on TV, I see alota pro players giggin their Eden rigs regularly, just last nite on BET saw a couple different cats jammin em. Prolly older rigs but might go to show the earlier models can last. My WT was a very clean 2005 and came with a like new Eden bag, dang shoulda kept it, LOL.

What a pain ErnieD.
I had some sort of smelly mold coming from the bottom of the cab. So I teated the spots and put the cab in the in the driveway to get some sun treatment. I put her back in the house and left for college the next day. When I came home I found out that it was moved to the shed(from the smell). I went out there to check it out, and when I lifted it up i heard some yelps from the inside. After putting it down and trying to figure out with heck the noise was, a chipmunk came running out, scared the crap out of me. ha.
I took the cones off and it was just a mess. Insulation was torn to crap, wires bitten through, 25-30 nuts on the inside, and the whole front yards worth of grass all piled in there. Perfect spot for those cold winter months. Lucky to have no damage to the cones.
I stripped off the carpet and sent it to my cousin, who is a carpenter, and had him treat the wood, re-carpet, re-insulate. Now im just waiting to get back and do some wiring. The whole thing was just a major pain.
One lesson learned...Dont trust your younger brothers with any of your equipment.

my cab was so funky, it smelled my SUV up just moving it once to a party. Then my garage kept the smell when I left it in there. The back patio is open but has a roof so it sat out there a few days to air out. Wish I'da put it out in the sun as well but I got alota squirrels out back, one mighta moved in. ;)

A chipmunk moving into a cab, that's gonna be hard to beat, very funny story. :D :D :D Wish you had pics. :smug:

I bought the amp earlier this year and I like it lot. Was concerned from almost the beginning because the fan seemed to come on rather quickly. It is (or was) mounted in the bottom two spaces of a full size 4 space SKB rack. There is a free space above it and a power conditioner in the top space. The input gain is set at, or maybe a little lower than what the manual recommends and I normally run the master around 10:30-11:00. EQ is fairly flat - a click or two at the most. The Enhance is never more than 9:30. It normally drives a 4 ohm Epifani UL410. It only takes a minute or two of playing before the fan kicks in. Once the tune is over, it will shut off in less than a minute. The biggest problem is that I can hear the click of the fan turning on and off through the speakers.

I finally decided to have it checked while it is still under warrantee and took it back to the shop where I bought it. They said that they would check with Eden and either have the store's tech work on it or send it to Eden. That was about a week ago. Today a got a call from the store's tech about it. After giving him all of the symptoms (again) and getting the "Oh this amp turns the fan on when the heat sink reaches 130 degrees" speech he said he would check it out.

I guess we'll see.

I run my WT-550 at 2 ohms on a regular basis and I have never experienced any problems. In my case the fan is on ~80% of the time during the gig. Unlike your situation I never hear any fan related noise through my speakers.

I hope the repair shop finds your problem and you get your amp back soon.

I've used Eden head and cabs before and never keep them long. What I did find out is that the older models cabs are the best sounding like the 4/10 rear ported but carry a lot of weight.. As far as their amp head go I did own a WT260 but couldn't get the sound I was looking for; to dry. I used two 210 XLT for two years but their sound got old. I think I was using the wrong amp with the cabs, they need plenty of power. But they never let me down at a gig...

Just purchased a new WT405 head and started searching for Eden testamonials here on TB.... found this thread. Wow. Well, I'm keeping a positive outlook and hope my unit runs great (I am suspicious of the "golden ear chip" however). Should be here Friday. In my professional life, I get to observe that anythime a group of three or more people get together, chaos and beauracracy emerge -- maybe Eden had this problem. You need strong focused managers to get the chaos out of the systems.

I have been using Eden amps for about 15 years - never had a problem, customer services has always been great (never contacted them for amp issues but for questions and parts), and I love the tone. Even though I have been using more all-tube amps as of late, I still break the WT800 out for gigs.

Nothing sounds like an Eden. Whether you like the sound of an Eden or not is personal taste, but I happen to love mine :-)

Following on with the "..smells or things you dont want in your cab.."
Lifted my 410XST ( from the front so the port was against my bely buckle ) and as im carrying it I feel a grabbing sensation on my belly - looked down and guess what had crawled out of the porting and onto the lower part of my shirt................


Didnt drop the cab OR kill the spider but I will admit my heartbeat did reach 180 in a nansecond..........:D

Wow, just researching on the current status of Eden and very surprised to find so much really good or really bad experiences. I was using a WP100 preamp and power amp but like a lot of you guys wanted something lighter like markbass / tc etc. I went down the TC path because I was sick of waiting for the WTX1000N to come out and the promise of neo cabs. The TC feature wise is incredible but I must admit I miss that Eden preamp a lot. Even the compressor in the WP100 was spot on.

I can still get a new WTX here but finding out Marshall bought them just wanted to see how things are with them now. Hearing the service issues is a bit of a concern.

The other thing I miss is the ass kicking depth the XST cabs have. I used one of the 210s and an a 410XLT and never had any issues with all the Eden gear.

I wish Eden would focus on continuing the WT800 and build a class D version like the NTX but without the useless bits like VU meters. ??? I think the market has expressed what it wants with GB and MB selling like crazy. Eden even today have the ability to equal if not pass them.

It would be great to Marshall steer them back on the original course again but with some focus on only a few models that align well with what we all want in amps.

Other than weight I really don't understand the criticism against their cabs other than CS. Just my opinion but their XLT & XST cabs are flawless. Sure they could use neos and try to keep all else the same but a 410 is a big cab and audio physics dictate.

I like the TC RH stuff but the tone is really like the diet coke of Eden to me. Really not sure if I should get an RH750 and RS cabs or go back to Eden WT800 or WTX and XST again.

Really sad to see this happen to Eden. They really made great gear.

I like their tone. I have a wtx264 which is small and light and sounds better than any thing that small has any right to.

They were purchased by Fender, I believe. Or maybe that was SWR.

That being said there are many many Montrose era amps and cabs available for reasonable money.

Has snarky ever made the world a better place? It seems rather negative.

They sound as great as ever and they are overcoming the bad customer service reputation they had in 2009/2010 timeframe.

I have dealt with their customer service on a warranty issue and they were spot on, they made it right quickly and courteously.
