For gigging anything over 9lbs.
I've had multiple back surgeries, plus have arthritis in my spine, so I'd say 8.5lbs is my upper limit. I had a great Sandberg 5 string that I had to sell because it was north of 10lbs and I just couldn't handle it for long practices/gigs(and that's with a wide strap).

It's not hostility. I'll just assume English isn't your first language and that's why you never learned it. I'm track-recording today, and there is plenty of practice...don't you worry.

What's too heavy? Any bass that causes pain due to its weight. Basses that I wear a little higher on the strap, or basses that I wear with a wide or padded strap can be a little heavier than basses I wear lower on the strap. Some basses are too heavy for a four-hour show but are just fine for a sixty minute set. I can't really put a single number on it.
So you're saying when you buy beer you put 4 cans back. It was a light-heart post pointing out relative weight,another is 3 month old babies frequently weigh more than 12lbs. Kids visiting a standpipe for water wouldn't be popular returning with just 3.5L (8lb).
I'll admit to viewing complaints regarding bass weights as a first world problem so any further comments could lead to offence. No point in that so I'll leave you folks to your discussion
Simply pointing out that the 12 can load gets lighter with a resulting increase in bathroom breaks. Any analogy embracing beer is a good one. Haven't had a 12 lb baby for a while but, if you don't support the head, they will neck-dive.

I prefer a lighter weight bass. My main bass is my Birdsong CBass (pictured in my avatar). Made from Cypress and probably weighs about 6.5 lbs.
I have another Birdsong on order that will be around 7.

To me, the weight of my instrument is not nearly important as its tone and playability (not even close). The weight , transportability and ease of set up of my amp and gear are far, far more important.
Here in Scotland 12 cans of beer weighs 13.2lb. Nobody complains about that
You sure you Scotsmen aren't drinking bottles, instead? Most commercial beer has a specific gravity slightly heavier than water (max 5% heavier). An ounce of water weighs one ounce. Therefore each can should weigh under a pound as the aluminum weight is negligible.

For me the comfort level depends more on the length of the gig and the energy I'm going to expend. A one hour country set is a lot different than a three hour rock show. Personally I don't notice the weight of a bass as much as the scale length or choice of shoes I'm wearing, but the heavy bass is much more tolerable at the shorter gig, which is a no brainer.
I've never weighed any of my basses, but my Spector seems to be about the heaviest out of my clan. I guess I really don't have a difinite number, it's more a factor based on other aspects of the gig.

I'm still sturdy at 63, but I generally find lighter basses more fun to play. I built several at about 8 lbs and a few in the low 7's. Just as important is balance. Ultralite or Resolite tuners are a must. I've got 27 electric basses. Only two of them exceed 9 lbs and even those are less than 10 lbs. Light is almost always better than heavy.
My MIA '78 (or perhaps '82) Jazz weighs in at 10-lbs, 12-oz. So yeah....wimp.
Key to comfortably using a heavy bass is to use a wide strap. I learned that with my '65 Jazz back in '66. Used a 3½"-wide leather strap on that one and I use a 3½"-wide leather strap on my current bass too.
It just drives some of us a little crazy to see a simple mistake of using to instead of the correct word which would be too. As the mistake was in the thread title, it sort of stuck out in a glaring way. I think the grammar police might turn you over to the spelling police.
