I don’t think it’s specific to Bass amps.
The Italians can do the worst possible (bridge in Genoa, corruption, Berlusconi...) and the best possible (Forghieri, Eco, Piano, you name it).
But when it comes to harmony, beauty and emotion in art especially visual ones, there is no one, no one that can match them.
Only in Italy have I been taken aback by the beauty of a simple window frame fresco done by the local painter, just because eh...’è meglio!’.
Drop a Milanese Dottore in Wal-Mart, he’ll end up looking better than anybody else in Brooks Brothers.
As for the espresso, the best one I ever had was in a petrol station in Cuneo. A petrol station! Only in Italy...

. Other than that, Italian manufacture tends to market itself as top of the line. Ferrari, Maserati, Stradivarius, the many fashion brands over which fashion people go nuts.
They're good for that sort of flair that the more stereotypically straightforward German manufacturers don't seem to go. I've laid witness to a bunch of Fiat and Iveco made stuff that I wouldn't want to touch. I suppose that flair can lend itself to an impracticality as well? I mean, the Iveco VM90 is not something I'd trust much farther than I could throw, and I didn't even know they had produced their own MBT until looking it up. But there's a big jump between luxury supercars and military hardware.
That said, the stereotypically Italian product is one imbued with a passion or a madness to be the best, most luxurious in its class. It comes as no surprise that they'd do bass amps, and I'd imagine that by and large they get them right, too.

i've played many italian bass amp,guitar amp,bass guitar that could certanly be a competiror with the best instrument maker.
For example, ATS make really good gear if you like a certain "neutral sound".
Maybe it's difficult to be know worlwide because we don't have many musician known outside Italy,in rock/pop scene.
For example,if you built bass in NYC its easer that you found a good musician that try your gear and get and endorsement.Like Wooten with Fodera or Miller with Sadowsky.
Only markbass made the boom,and i remeber when they where a little reality here and made classic a/b style head(bought one if you find one).I don't know how Marco made it,but I hope some will follow
