An old friend of mine once bought a MIM Jazz in CAR although he hated the color, because he read a psychological article that black or red guitars got you the most chicks...

I recently bought a Nate Mendel P and one time, when looking at the CAR finish and black pickguard, I suddenly remembered that article.

It now goes by the name of 'Ladykiller'

All (but one) of my bass's names are descriptive... the '59, the Warrior, etc. except for my BEAD tuned Fender P-J which reminded me of a late 50's Chevy or Corvettes in Aqua... so, it is 'The Chevy Bass'

I have a hard time anthropomorphizing inanimate objects.

No, I don't name my instruments. I actually don't name any inanimate objects. My first bass is "my first bass" or "the Ibanez," I have a Traben Array Attack Obsession, which is "the Traben," and I have an Ibanez ATK which is "the ATK." Original, I know.

IMHO, naming an instrument (or a car or whatever) is a stupid concept. I'm not saying you people are stupid... Just naming things is.
