What's Your Bass/Guitar's Name?

This thread has come up before and I found out what a divisive issue this is. I think this is up there with "tonewood" and the likes.

I have names for all my basses. I like my basses more than most people and they have names.

Yes, I now recognize that it's been discussed before. My bad. I should have done a search before I posted. Still, some interesting names and takes here. Particularly impressed with "Homer"!

Though I don't see why it would be a divisive issue. There's no right or wrong in naming something. Some people do, some people don't. It's not as subjective as "tonewood". It doesn't bother me that people name their instruments. It's kind of endearing in some weird way. But, I just can't see myself ever naming mine. It's "my Rickenbacker" or "my fender" for me...though "Ric" seems like an obvious choice, I've never called it that.

Sure, my Ric, my Thunderbird, my Fender etc. Never named a bass. Sometimes my red one, my black Fender etc.

I saw a thread where someone mentioned it as a disambiguator of cases. And I was like - ok, I can see that one, if I ever get a roadie I'll do it.

Fast forward a month, and I discovered that I sold the wrong case with an acoustic guitar I sold TWO YEARS AGO, and I no longer had a case that fit both my 12 string and my baritone acoustic guitars. Both are jumbos and one is a 12 and the other a baritone - so neither one fits a normal case. (Oh, and I had this OM sized gig bag that doesn't fit anything any more)

They now have names on their cases. I haven't named my bases yet - but they don't really leave the house. I don't actually call them names (except when I screw up), but they now have personalized cases.

“Darryl’s Bass” perhaps.

I bought my ‘77 P from a friend and mentor, who for some reason had to “upgrade” to a five string. Brought it home, told my wife that I bought Darryl’s bass. Of my few bass friends, she had met him and knew him. She thought it was good sounding….in his hands, anyway. This is 18 years ago.

Any time I tell her I sold a bass, she says, “Not Darryl’s Bass!?”
The rest remain anonymous. And are permitted to leave the nest.

I feel the same way as you, and it seems most of those who replied have an equally mature view on it too. What's comical is the people who want to criticize folks who do name their basses...or want to ascribe it as some sort of moral or mental deficiency for doing so. For real, some folks take themselves WAY too seriously
