It seems like there is a lot of disagreement over topics and I think much of it centers around different types of gigs and one person taking another's comment and applying it directly to their gig which probably doesn't make sense. So share your gig! Who is doing dive bars? Who's doing wedding bands, churches, brother in law's BBQ, etc, etc?

I have two gigs - the first is playing bass for the Baltimore Ravens. So I regularly play to 70,000 people but not a single one is there to see me. Heh. We play with the marching band and do fill in music during the game. Sometimes it's 30 seconds, sometimes it's two minutes. You get the call from the booth and you play, now! I view it similar to a late night talk show band. Every time we play it's something different. You have to be flexible, different keys, read and play on the fly and the group needs to gel enough to almost have ESP to know that we need to stretch out an ending with zero warning.

My other gig is with a local band, Artistic Differences, we play a mix of covers and originals in small bars and outdoor gigs in the area. it's a lot of fun since all the members get along well and we all love gear.

I play ebg and have been know to strum a 6 string and fumble on the kb for a studio that does singer/songwriter recordings. Some bring in beats (rhythm) tracks and together with the engineer we build in intro's, outtros and bridges. Most of the stuff is highly derivative of what's on the radio or what was popular. Much of the stuff is Christian Rock. Two-three sessions a week regularly, busier 4-5 when busy.

I also play upright with a straight ahead jazz band that does the local beach venues. I like hard bop. These guys are really old, only the drummer and myself are 'the kids'. The soloist are pretty good having played these tunes for nearly my lifetime! Couple-three gigs a month.

I play with an 60-80's band that seems to have the right attitude. They pass around emails that call out the tunes for the next gig, everyone kinda learns them but everyone is competent and so it comes off okay. What they are really good at is selecting where and when to play. Seems like the singer/front guy/comedian/ombudsman finds great parties locally, never a long drive and always a blast. We have a list of tunes that spans the decades. We gig maybe once a month at minimum and twice a month when busy.

Finally I am working with a guitarist and drummer on 10 original pieces. We've finished about half and have a good start on the remaining tunes. It's my ELP, my ode to playing all these decades.

50% Wineries/Tasting Rooms, 25% Private Events, 25% Restaurants/Clubs.

Currently work with two different trios, One is Oldies 50's & 60's mainly, The other is Irish & 70's Soft Rock.
Both acts are vocal intensive, though I'm proficient in Jazz & other genres I get more satisfaction with the vox nowadays.
Nothing beats great harmony vocals, Nothing is worse than missing your note...

In my spare time I am fumbling my way thru Chord Melody guitar..

Dive bars, wineries, breweries, and some private parties. Most bands are cover bands, a few have sprinkled originals, one is 50/50 covers/originals with the covers all being changes a lot from the original versions. I'm trying to get into a band that "panders" and so can play more weddings and corporate functions.

Presently, just open mics. I've had a crappy schedule but am preparing to take gigs. One is a group that plays bluesy originals, some jazz, pop and rock covers. Another group that wants me to sub in is a reggae group, that be new to me, mon. Recently started playing at a jazz jam, too - hopefully that bears fruit.

Bars ,wineries, private events.
"Country" coverband, working on originals.
I sub in dance, pop, blues and classic/hard rock bands

guitar, three-piece rock band
mostly original music with a few covers thrown in
bars/restaurants, dive bars, music venues
our first gig was playing in a kitchen while being broadcast on a local internet radio station
we also played in the living room of a house on a college campus that was run by a student club of some kind

As of last week I'm only gigging with my Americana originals band. Mainly Listening Rooms, house concerts, festivals, some benefits and some cool restaurants like the House of Blues Crossroads Rest. We are finishing our third album so that kept us busy for a while.

I was just kicked out of my country/classic rock cover band a couple of weeks ago, which was mainly dive bars and country saloons, I just didn't have the time so it was for the best. I don't miss the PA late night hauling at all! But it was fun playing with the guys and girls. We also used to do a stadium gig just like RichSnyder but for minor league baseball.
