What's Your 'Old Guy' Back Saver Rig?

Any Markbass combo will do.

I estimate My Markbass combo 210 is under 50 pounds. It sounds great and can easily hold it's own with a band in a small - intermediate sized room.

300 watts into 8ohms, 500 watts into 4ohms. Plug in another cab and get your ear protection.

I'm a middle aged professional, and love all the new light weight gear out there. I had an SVT and two 8-10 cabs, but that was a long time ago. I have developed back problems, and was curious, what are you other older bassists using? I'm interested in your combos, and head / cab choices for all different applications. This also might help some of our younger bass brothers from injuring themselves!

LHB, like you I used to use large a rack with a Demeter Preamp and a Carver 1200 Power amp and haul around 3 JBL cabinets; 1-2x12 & 2-2x12.

NOW I PLAY through the WALTER WOODS 2 Channel 450/600w Amp and a MESA Powerhouse 2x10 8 ohms (600w). The sound and punch is HUGE! It sounds as full but clearer than my SWR Goliath 4x10. I keep a collabsable dolly with me and can roll in and out with my gig bag strapped on.

The WW amp allows the instrument to project it's natural tone and the amp can be adjusted for the needs of the room. Highly efficient powerful and clean set up. I LOVE IT!

I'm always checking out what's new, but so far this is IRREPLACEABLE!

For the last 6 years I've been using a GK 1001 RB with 2 Aguilar GS-112's. It is an awesome rig and not too heavy. But I talked to Jeff Genzler on the phone today (3/28) and he told me that in a "couple of months" there would be a matching extension 12 inch cab for the Shuttle 6.0-12T. When I see that at the local Genz-Benz dealer, I'll be selling my current rig for that 6.0-12T with the matching extension cab. I don't think that there will be a rig on the market that will be able to keep up with that one for tone, power, and portability. )-(

thunderfunk 550A in a Gator rack bag (great bag with a wide shoulder strap) and a EA NL210 (37 lbs.)

yo, DrMWP.... what size bag you using with the TF? i just got a 2 space Gator but i'm nervous about my 420 TF getting hot in that tight space....

"back saver" rig: Dr Bass 115 4 ohm cab w/ a Thunderfunk 420.

i had a chance to hear my Tfunk on top of a new Dr Bass 15/+8 cab, NEO version 8 ohm.... very very nice, lots of head room even though running at 8 ohms cuts the wattage...

For rehearsal = Fender Bassman 150 combo, 39 lbs. Just throw it in the back seat, nice.

For smaller gigs, Genz Benz 600 (about 26 lbs.) and Neox 112T cab, (about 36 lbs.), not too bad on the back.

For bigger gigs, no real savings here with my Genz Benz GBE750 (about 35 lbs.) and my Genz Benz NeoX 212 (around 60 lbs. but it has wheels). This is still better than my old Peavey 115 BVBWX which was around 80 lbs.

It's my PA stuff that's heavy. My amp rack with 2 Yamaha P4500's is around 85 lbs.

Avatar B210 Neo and a 4 space rack. Each less than 50lb.s. The rack contains my GK 700rbII , tuner and wireless. If I really want to go ultra-light, and have a great PA w. good monitors, then I just bring a bass and in its case will be my MXR M-80 DI. Its got adequate tone to do a gig.

I split my signal and run into an MXR bass di+ and the other signal into a line6 bass pod.

I use ampeg solid state heads and I build my own speaker cabinets ...

Here is one of my amps ... and one of my basses that I sold on ebay ... I only keep the 5 string basses ...

I have several home made cabinets that are approx 24" wide x 19" - 21" high x 13" - 14" deep.

This old guy uses a Markbass 210 combo (44lbs) for most gigs. I occasionally back it up with my Markbass Traveller 15 cab (38 lbs).

I can walk from my car with the combo in one hand, cab in the other, bass in gig bag on my back, other bag for leads and stuff over my shoulder.
