What's your oldest effect and do you still use it? :)

Hey Guys,
So I was just looking around at my current gear haul. Some of you know I'm not much of an effect guy. My tone usually just has a bit of grit or breakup in it (Think Geddy meets Steve Harris meets Pete Trawavas meets Duff McKagan and they sat down and all have a brew) I do enjoy a chorus or flanger here and there and I absolutely love messing around with envelope filters but have never really found a place for them in my music. Gear has come and gone: basses, amps, pedals, rack stuff. You name it! But a few things have remained constant. Namely a handful of basses and my Line 6 Bass Pod XT. I owned one of the original Bass Pods and loved it but when the XT version came out I was completely floored! The interface was so much easier to deal with and the amp sims were significantly better. I have it hooked up to our Mac as an audio interface and still use the amp sims to this day. (I've even fooled some folks here on TB asking if they liked my HX stomp or Helix presets and then surprising them with this "vintage" unit )
I think I bought this back in 2008 or 2009 and it's still going strong. I've thought about picking up a midi controller and setting up my presets properly but really haven't gotten around to it.
I get nostalgic about some of the older multi-effects. Especially some of the ones that I let go for some reason or another and sometimes look for them in mint condition to pick up again. Prices are quite reasonable these days for some of the older units. I would love to pick up a Boss Gt6B again to mess around with!

So what is your oldest effect that you still use regularly?

Purchased used about 5 years back, was idle for a while but now using regularly again. The oldest I've owned all along, purchased new, not coincidentally, is the EHX Polyphase. See a pattern? lol

I haven't tried the two together. Yet. Bwu-hahaha. Also just arrived today:

I have quite a few pedals that I bought new in the 90s that I still have. A SansAmp GT2, a few from Boss, a Crybaby, etc. I don't use any of them regularly but I don't usually get rid of effects either.

Oldest that I own but didn't buy new myself? Probably my Boss OC-2 I think. I have a few old tubescreamers from the 80s, a DD-3, an SD-1, a Turbo Rat from the early 90s. A bunch of others that I can't seem to remember right now.

My oldest pedal that I still gig nearly every week is my Dunlop 105Q wah, got it in 2010. I had another 105Q before that, but somehow wore it out in 4 years in the late 2000's.
But I love my 2010 wah so much, I sent it to my buddy at Dunlop and had them do any necessary fix/adjustments earlier this year.

My other oldest is a 1st year Bass Big Muff from 2008. while I still have it, its now relegated to a small backup board for basement jams or ampless gigs with a buddy's band, so sees very rare usage. I used it on a gig 2 days ago, but before that it was almost 3 years ago since I used it.

It's always on no matter what I play and which bass I use. I set it in a way that it lets off quickly and preserves the attack but still gives some of its warmth from he tube that is inside. The perfect "its there but its barely noticeable" thing for me. It just glues everything together so well and if I want more or less compression, I just fiddle with the ratio knob and nothing else. Works wonders.

Big box Deluxe Memory Man. Got it for Christmas in 2005 from my parents. I think it was $215 and I had to explain that it was what I wanted (despite crickets on the other end of the phone).

Anyhoo, it's still on my board and I've tried other (smaller) delays. They just couldn't match the DMM.

That looks like a prop off of the original Battlestar Galactica. I love the "big means it does something" era.

My ART Phat Boy multi efx. I bought it new, probably in the ‘80s.
It has a good assortment of usable preset effects in a single package, and so it’s not super versatile,
but the effect sounds are good ones.

Only thing I bought originally in 2008 was an Ibanez weeping demon that I still occasionally use… lots of stuff upgrades over the years. Bought later but an earlier pedal is my boss ps3… unsure when they stopped making it but it’s up to ps6 or something now? So I think early 2000’s or something?
I went back to mine cos it’s not perfect but it just has a charm with its chimey / synthy pitch shifts

My oldest is the OC-2 “Octaver”. It doesn’t have the volume drop or tracking issues that a lot of people seem to complain about. But I rarely use it now since my SA Spectrum has an awesome octave sound and really good OC2 -1 sound as well!

So what is your oldest effect that you still use regularly?

If you mean the oldest in terms of its absolute age, that would be the original Electro-Harmonix 16 Second Digital Delay (lower left in the picture) which is from 1980. I inherited it sometime in the early 1990s. But if you mean the effect that I've owned the longest, that would be the Ibanez CE-9 chorus (lavender pedal in the center of the board) which I've had since 1983.

It's Zoom 505.

Last time I've used it with Yamaha DX27 as an effect processor, but mostly it gathers dust in my cabinet.

I started playing back in the seventies, and have zero bass effects pedals. Starting in the eighties, I got into pedals for guitar , and got the usual stuff.
I have a couple dozen guitar effects pedals, including quite a number of Boss effects pedals, all of which I still own, including overdrives, Stereo Chorus, Phase Shifters, Flangers, etc. (I do have reverb, delays and tremolo pedals I use for vintage instrumental music.)

I never get rid of effects pedals (like Doc Martens) no matter how old they are, or what kind of condition they’re in. I also have a Dunlop Wah Wah pedal, and the best I can recall, last used it as a door stop.

I still regularly use my gen 1 VT bass i bought when it was new. still have the tin and papers, too.

a while back i sold all of my pedals, i had a lot of them. the VT was the only one i kept.
