When did "Short Scale Shaming" become 'a thing'???

I wonder why there are no "short scale" pianos. Many of the greatest composer/players also famously had a reach of an octave + 3rd + . As for bassists, look at Jaco's hands...

THen again, it's probably because the average scale is perfect for the average hand, and the advantage of larger hands may also have disadvantage.

But these are the kinds of things we wonder when we should be sleeping

Someone likely mentioned this here already (didnt read all the replies) but, this could be a online/TB thing only...you know, where no one in real life at gigs would ever say anything to your face.

It's prevalent in social media for sure. The thing people forget about social media, is a lot of humans have absolutely no class. They'll chastise people on their death bed and damn them horrible deaths just to get a reaction or a FB like. They attack anyone and anything under the guise that, "it's just a joke". I read some stuff that is purposely worded to be hateful and derogatory towards other bassists, probably 3 times a week on FB. On a side note, I've been noticing a link between the people that act the meanest, and terrible spelling and grammar. No time for dem werds and sentinse dots wen ur makn a funy!

Some people think it’s wrong to wear sndals with socks, some people think it’s wrong if you put ketchup on a hot dog, and some people think it’s wrong letting your kids ride in the back of your pickup truck.
Hey, if you’re comfortable with a short-scale bass or even one of those tiny hilarious-looking uke basses, just do you!

To be fair, the first two things are definitely wrong.

I have 34" and 35" scale basses and I love them both. I started on short scale (what was the Framus Star Bass. . . 30"?) If my arthritis carries on developing at this rate it's likely I'll end my bass playing days on a short scale. By that time the scale will be the least of my problems!

Anyway, there's no shame, just preference and maybe necessity.
