When is it OK to lie?

Well... without an intent to deceive, it isn't lying.

How is that even possible?

People tell stories and jokes. The things they say in the stories and jokes did not really happen. They are not true. The storyteller and his audience all understand that they are not true, that it's just a story. So is the storyteller a "liar?"

Maybe if you know telling the truth would hurt someone deeply without a reason? I do not think that this works for cheating on someone but maybe telling someone you do not like him or her. Though I always believe everyone deserves to know the truth about everything I sometimes prefer telling a little lie in order to not hurting someone if it isn't absolutely necessary.
