Allright, I'm coming up on my 25th, so I have some street
cred here.
I have been to counseling 3 times, it does work. There are
times when you need a referee so it doesn't spiral down
into anger and rage, and stuff can get resolved. Being
married is not easy, and a difficult marriage is often doomed.
It is a *lot* of work.
That being said, here is one of the things that happened to
me years ago. I had a catchall drawer, one big drawer that I
put all my crap into. One day I find out she has been in there,
and 'cleaned it out'. At this point I went ballistic, 'its not your
stuff, why did you touch it?'. I lost a lot of good mementos
and souvenirs. The one that really hurt me was the packet
of concert tickets I had saved, I saved every stub of every
concert I had been to. Nice to know the date of that one
as the years go by ... I haven't gotten over it, but have
come to grips with it.
I have a worktable. Anything she doesn't like somehow gets dumped there. I don't complain, at least it didn't go out.
I have her trained to leave my stuff alone, finally, but it
took some doing.
No it wasn't right for her to get rid of your stuff, but
freaking out over it, ( like I did ), just made her defensive
and argumentative.
Maybe you can say, let's make a deal, I won't throw out
any of your stuff without speaking to you about it, and
you don't throw out any of my stuff without speaking to me about it, isn't that fair? Great! Let's leave it at that,
case closed. Then you have an agreement to fall back on
for the future.
Hope the job works out.
And for the guy whose 'girlfriend' wants to control his
phone, I would have bailed on her about as long after as
it took me to pack my meager stuff. She's not married to
you, and already she wants you to get rid of your basses?
You cave to that and you are screwed. There are plenty of
nice girls out there, some will even give you enough space to
actually breathe air. Bail and keep looking, you will be a lot happier in the long run.
( This should have been in the 'Ask Buddman column' on
board X. where ombudsman would have said, break her
jaw, she is not comprehensive enough ...
